Print Head Alignment

I just reformatted, and when installing the printer driver it says I need to align the print heads before using the printer (it assumes this is the first time I've used it, which it's not).

Is aligning the print heads a hardware thing? In which case I wouldn't need to do it since I did it when I got the printer. Or is it a software thing? In which case I would need to, since I reformatted.

It is a software setting that aligns the print heads on your printer (which is hardware). The software you installed for your printer should do it for you. I'm guessing you have an Epson printer? It was fairly common for Epson software to request that.

If you installed the full software package, there should be a shortcut to 'Cleaning print heads' or Troubleshooting. If you just installed the drivers, there should be a Tab in your Printer Properties that will do that as well.

Hi, Alignment is rarely needed today. It aligns the color jets and to the black so that everything aligns vertically and prints clearly. It is a software function that adjusts the timing of the electrical pulses to the head. Hope this helps a little, Jim
