I've been playing the Prince of Persia 2 (Warrior Within) demo and I love it (although I got stuck at one part). I have the opurtunity to install PoP: The Sands of Time and was wondering if it is worth it? (I'm very conservative with my hard drive space). I know the game got great reviews, but how is the PC version?

IMO, the best game to come out of 2003. There are too many copycats these days - shooters are starting to feel dangerously alike, as are strategy games. This game is original, and is actually fun to play because it's fresh, and you finally have something to do besides stuff a shotgun in someone's ass.

Highly recommended. Game is one of the most enjoyable I've played in a long time.

Like everyone else has said, it's one of the best sleeper games of 2003. Actually, I think I liked the original Sands of Time better than Warrior Within. I've still not finished Warrior Within, but HL2 could have something to do with that. :)

I just got Warrior Within today and started it, and I agree. I preferred Sands of Time, thus far. I preferred the first games bright, fantasy theme and excellent storyline....Warrior Within is the darker, more violent cousin, and while I commend the team at Ubi for avoiding redundancies, it does take away one of the reasons I enjoyed the first game - it captured that adolescent naivete and idealism really well...the game had a demeanor I can only describe as "sunny", which I preferred over the darker WW style. It's optimistic vs. pessimistic.

WW is still good though - bits of the first game shine through, making you fully believe this is the same Prince, only run haggard from years of constant conflict survival.

A bit more on Warrior Within - I think the problem is it's trying too hard. From the all grey/brown color, to the Linkin Park (terrible!) inspired soundtrack, to the ridiculously juvenile T and A, you can almost see the marketing execs leaning over the shoulders of the designers going "we need to sell to more teenage males. Appeal to their hormones and formulaic taste in music."

I retract my previous statement. Warrior Within is not a good game in spite of it's downfalls - it's a good game because the mechanics that defined Sands of Time were so strong to begin with, that even the watered down crap (there is no other word for it) that Warrior Within added could not derail the gameplay.

Hopefully, being that the series deals with time and change, we will see the Prince from Sands of Time return for the third installment. I much preferred the golden hearted royal son of The Sands of Time to the X-TREME Marketing! generic ruffian of Warrior Within.

yes definetly worth playing.

I am actually stuck in the last part where you have to wall jump going down for the first time, I cant seem to get the timing right.

any tips? I must have tried this level 20 times but cant seem to get it right.

solid game, nice to play in between the redundant shooting games (halo, doom, half life)

Just gotta get it done man. I found that a VERY SLIGHTLY slower tempo of wall jumps got me down there just fine.

I'm currently stuck on a boss battle in Warrior Within...I dunno, I want to like this game, but there was so much right with Sands of Time that they decided to change here and it really threw the magic off. If things don't pick up soon, this one may get shelved...Boss battles suck. They always have. They should be outlawed from games. Half-Life 2 was a game I enjoyed more than any other recently, same with Sands of Time, because there were no stupid-hard boss fights. You kept moving forward...you weren't stuck and frustrated by some developer-ego fight piece.

I don't know about the sequel, but PoP:ST is a jumping game. Lots of it. If you don't like jumping you won't like this. Secondly, the camera is not the best in the world, IMO. You have limited control of it and sometimes you won't like where it decides to go.

I loathed the game but I understand that view is in the minority.

Yes, it's what's known as a platformer - they existed back in the day before every single game involved you shooting something. I love shooters, but in the end you're still just fighting, and you want some variety once in a while. I loved Sands of Time not just because it was fun to figure out the puzzles and environments, but also for the excellent art style, the truly excellent story, the likeable characters, and the great music.

I can understand if some people don't like it, but recommend giving it a try. I liked it far better than anything else that came out of 2003.

I'm about 75% complete on WW and I think it's a great game. But it's much longer than the original Sands of Time. Also, you spend a good amount of time going back and forth in the same areas between past and present. The fact that I'm seeing the same areas twice, for me, makes the game feel as though it just kinda drags on.

Also, I think the original SOT had much more detailed jumping puzzles than WW, and the huge puzzles was probably my favorite feature of SOT. WW is still an excellent game, but I think it's suited more toward aggressiveness and combo attacks.

I'd agree there. I still think Warrior Within is better than most games that make it to market - far better. I'd even call it excellent. I just liked Sands of Time's feel-good style a lot more. Maybe it's just a preference thing, I don't know, but the first one felt more fresh and less generic. WW seems to have taken a step back in everything but the combat.
