Prince Nikolai of Denmark no longer a prince

Prince Nikolai 'shocked and confused' over loss of title (yahoo.com)

The current but soon to be former prince is shocked by the Queen's decision. His world has been turned upside down. He will lose his ability to effortlessly pick up chicks by telling them that he is a prince of Denmark. And all his credit cards will need to be re-issued. His staff will no longer look at him with the same regard. His prince cousins are now superior to him. His only sin was being born to the Queen's second son. He may very well be contemplating suicide.

Oh! The injustice of it all! Where is the online petition to reinstate his former and rightful title? He was born into privilege and he must retain it! That is what us humans do. We must not cheat him of his birthright.

Danish people, wake up and protest in the streets! You must speak against injustice. If you let this go by, who knows what will happen in the future?

We are rioting and shaking our fists :p

There were a headliner on a news homepage from his father: "They are hurting my children." (it was next to news about the war in Ukraine.)
I guess this is 1 percent of the 1 percent of 1st world problems.

In the old days, the Queen could have gotten herself murdered with a bright idea like this...

it is morbidly entertaining to read about the roman emperors and their families killing their relatives to ensure they become ruler

it got slightly classier with the byzantine emperors, because often they would just cut the noses or tongues of their relatives

apparently not having a nose makes someone ineligible to become emperor

In the old days _everyone_ would end up dead, by the time the curtain fell. Some powerful soliloquies along the way, though.

I wasn't actually aware of "Nikolai's" existence prior to seeing this post nevermind that he was a prince of some kind.

And why should you? Sure the British royal family is known in most of the world, but even as a Dane I don’t hold the same assumptions about our royal family. :p

Me neither. Maybe that's what the Queen meant when she said, it's for their own good. Now they are more famous than they were before :D

In the long run I actually think she is trying to do the opposite as they are in many ways trying to live a more "civilian" life.

I bet being fake royalty is a real drag. You have a lot of obligations of a real monarch without any real power. Everyone watches you always, you're expected to cater to visiting dignitaries, everyone wants to know what your opinion on topical events is, but they don't really care, and what you think carries little weight...

How many Royal families are left (in Europe and elsewhere)? I guess they've suffered a lot of attrition from wars and revolutions over the centuries. (Is there a rule that says the only ones that survive are ones Shakespeare wrote plays about?)

Those who turned over their power over to parliamentarism in a somewhat peaceful manner still seems to exists.
The Queen of Denmark is now the longest living ruling regent.
