Nukes need to be detonated higher in the atmosphere in order to generate an EMP.
According to this article on EMP, that is not the case. It specifically mentions SR-EMP generated by low-altitude nuclear bursts which, according to the writer, pose a much greater threat on both military and civilian equipment. Of course the range of the pulse is much more limited when compared to high-altitude detonations, but the EMP is there nevertheless, unless I totally misunderstood that article.

Oct 14... I'll be buying it. I've already gotten a copy on VCD that's pretty poorly compressed, but I wanted to see it before my son does...
I'm half way through Reloaded and so far, the fight scenes are interesting, but the rest is crap.
Hmmm. I thought they did. In the Second Reneissance humans had EVA's, bombers, tanks etc, but they woke up too late. By the time they realised the machines were taking over, their manufacturing capabilities were probably no match for the machines' deadly efficiency and precision.
How's that for an answer? 😉

I believe this was posted after the first trailer came out. Now if you watch the latest trailer...it makes a little more sense.

SREMP wouldn't really be a factor since the range of it is within the area immediately affected by the blast and thermal radaition. 3 to 8 km according to the article. A high altitude blast could affect the whole US, more practical if your aim is to cause EMP and not just surface destruction.
Indeed, but that still does not answer the original question - which is, if 01 was completely blanket-bombed with nuclear warheads, how come the machines survived the EMP's? In the animated series it seemed like every square inch was engulfed in the nuclear blaze, so we can assume the SREMP pulses would have pretty much covered the entire robot nation as well. Yet the robots were unaffected. But then later on, in Neo's time the sentinels are disabled by the EMP weapon!
I guess there is really only one answer to the question: the screenplay writers did not think that far. Oh well, we've seen worse (MUCH WORSE) inconsistencies in other sci-fi flicks. Next!

I don't see what's so amazing about it. There are any number of ways to shild or limit the effects of EMP but they're all a pain. Use metal shields, or better yet use a superconducting shell. The problem? You gotta be completely covered. And you can limit the length of wires in your machines. And the easy way to avoid EMP problems is to turn off during the EMP. Doesn't offer complete protection if you connected to enough long wires but if you're not, offers super protection.
Okay, but you are still missing the point, which is: let's assume the robots survived the EMP during the first nuclear war because they were protected against it. But then why aren't the sentinels impervious to the EMP weapon on the Nebuchadnazzar? That was the question. And again, to me the answer is simple: the screenplay writers must have overlooked this issue. There is no logical explanation to it. Unless it's something like, "Well, the machines figured that since they had gained complete control over humans, they did not need EMP protection anymore."
OR... There could be a massive surprise awaiting us all in the final episode that puts it all in perspective.

I've got one concern re: Revolution. It hasn't been rated yet, and it's not that far from its release date. When this occurred with other movies, it was because some violent scenes (and/or sexual scenes) bumped it to an X rating which would spell death at the box office.
If this is what's happening with Revolution and one or more scenes get deleted to please the raters, I hope the final edit doesn't turn the movie into a chopped-up version of the original script.

Yeah, clearly these movies are not for kids, so I don't think the editors will try to make it kindergarten-friendly. Didn't the first two receive an "R" rating? I, for one would not be surprised if they had given them NC-17. Some of the stuff in these films could be pretty disturbing to a young mind...
