Re benchmarking/ finding an optimum config: Michael Goetz recommends to run specific tasks directly from the command line, not live tasks through the boinc-client. That way you can compare different configs directly on a single task and without having to wait for validation (if your rig works reasonably stable). I'll need to look into that.

Edit: Of course commandline benchmarking needs to be done outside of challenges, as you don't get credits as a byproduct.

"Slow" turnout for this race. ;) But there's plenty of time to get your work done. Two weeks to go from this point.

Two weeks isn't really that much for SoB, is it?

Phenom II X4 905e (2.5 GHz), one 4-threaded task at a time: estimated run time 3d 8h (estimation at 10 % completion)

AVX really does help. I have an i3-6100 running 3 threads at 2.2GHz, to keep it cool and quiet in a HTPC. It's taking less than a day and a half to do each WU.

I only use 2 threads @3.8GHz on Athlon 845. It's AVX capable, but I guess it's only as good as SandyBridge's i3. Couldn't ask more for a $40 CPU.

Well, pending an invalid result :(...(like I had on my DD, I had F@H running and general use too) I will have a whole 1 completed in ~25 mins. Total time appears to be it's going to be ~15 hrs on a Linux box with nothing else running and using the app_config file posted. Fingers crossed this one completes correctly! :)

I can engage a second dual-Xeon in the Happy New Year Challenge, though maybe not the whole time. I am using this opportunity to take my 4-core hosts which run F@H off of PrimeGrid.

Michael Goetz said:
We're now processing the n=22M tasks, so processing times are longer, the numbers being checked are over 6 million digits long, and credit per task for the latest numbers is over 31 thousand.
So new work you download now will take longer than older work.

Really glad that your system up and running again.

You can say its always been up, just has been suspended from compute for the summer. I only enable compute for about 6 hours per day, and that is during the nights, enough to get 25%-35% if a SoB WU done or 1 WU of FAH

I suppose you are you fetching one F@H task and set it to "finish" right away, right? (To prevent fetching another task later in the same night, which would sit suspended during the day and get no bonus credit when being completed the next night.)

Looks like 6th is the place to be, if we can stay there. :) @zzuupp, are you not using the app_config.xml?

Thanks for the stats, Ken.

I've only got an app_config set up on one box at the moment. It's set up to do two threads per task.
Setting up the other sounds like a good way to procrastinate shoveling snow. It just started here and won't stop until sometime late tomorrow morning.

My apologies, but I'm not running this round of PG. The degradation of Folding performance reported here was the primary reason, followed by the long long long task duration.

Thanks for the stats, Ken_g6.
Please, all those who are not folding, please come to the race with Brony@Home.
We have a thread about this race.

We seem to be doing well against MIXI. But you never know who might be running a lot of WUs slowly without app_config.

Ken's stats posting period: ~24 hours
llrSOB's recent average CPU time: ~86 hours

Ah, my Phenom II X4 reported its task. 80 hours run time, 310 hours CPU time, 9,000 PPD.

Well of course: 310 / 80 = 3.9 ≈ 4. (Or actually it was using app_config, as I have taken it off of PG now. Tomorrow it shall do things it can do better than LLR.)

Proof that AVX capability had advantage here. My 845 is still in 80hrs/task trajectory even though it only uses 2 threads. I also pull my C2D laptop from this challenge because it needed more than 7 days/task to run and its temperature was 10 C hotter than in WCG few days earlier, just couldn't stand the whirry noise in my room.

@bill1024, it almost seems as if you are not overly fond of Win 10.

Not a big fan!!! I started going back to w7, and Linux, I am done with w10, when the PG challenge is over.........work to do.
I did all the tricks to stop it from updating, it still managed to update.
Maybe block the MS server IP in the router and modem can stop it, unplug the PSU from the wall will stop it.
