This is correct; the web setting is picked up by the current CPU-only Genefer application version (available in GFN-16…GFN21) if there is no respective app_config.xml block. I have added this info to #386 now.

12/7 - 12/17 (05:00 UTC) PrimeGrid Great Internet Fermat Prime Search Challenge: GFN-21, GFN-22, DYFL (10 days)
= starts in the night from Tuesday 12/6 to Wednesday at 00:00 EST/ 21:00 PST,
= ends in the night from Friday 12/16 to Saturday at 00:00 EST/ 21:00 PST.
Since yesterday, my internet connection suffers lots and lots of interruptions again. (Frequent DOCSIS T3 and T4 timeouts, and after those often DHCP failures.) On my cable operator's web site where they list service interruptions, they finally put up a note regarding my region today. It says that speed problems and connection interruptions are experienced here (indeed they are), and that this will presumably be fixed on 12/8 (17:00 UTC).

Well, I hope I'll somehow manage to download my first GFN tasks on 12/7 despite that…

OK, I think I remember that 22 and dyfl are the two to run due to bonus. GPU only ? or is it work running like 8c tasks on cpu ?

As I noted elsewhere, 8 CPU cores won't get you far. GPUs are needed, and modern GPUs at that, or some really big CPUs with fitting configuration.

And the reason is this:
If you look up the sizes of the numbers tested by PrimeGrid's subprojects (all listed at https://www.primegrid.com/), you'll find that the biggest LLR based project is Seventeen or Bust (SOB-LLR) with 11.6 M digits. LLR is still CPU only. In contrast, Genefer 21 is already at 12.4 M digits. Genefer 22 (formerly known as Genefer World Record Attempt) at 22.6 M. And DYFL is at 25.1 M digits. (Which, if a prime number would be found there, would truly be of world record size. A GFN-22 would "only" be 3rd largest by now, behind finds of the GIMPS project.)

So the test candidates in GFN-21/-22/-DYFL are absolutely BIG. There are only three CPUs which have enough cache for Genefer 21 and Genefer 22: Broadwell-EP (but only SKUs with 18 cores or more), Ryzen 5800X3D, and Epyc Milan-X. But the latter two have too few cores attached to each cache segment, therefore they aren't that useful despite the good cache size. Regular Ryzen 5000 and 7000 as well as Epyc Milan have a slightly lacking cache size, plus the same problem that there are rather few cores available per cache segment. Still with a lot of tweaking, Ryzen 3000/5000/7000 and Epyc Rome and Milan can be used here, but take more configuration work than Broadwell-EP.

my lowly rx550(my fastest gpu :D) is chugging away...and is being outclassed by my 3700x. .7%/hour for the rx550 and 1%/hour for the 3700x.

It will probably be long for several of us, and extra long for our stats keeper who appears to go through with posting stats at a whole ten times during this challenge — but quite short for what some classes of hardware can achieve in this one.

Some of my hosts are supposed to spend the first 6+ days at a first task, and the last 3+ days at a second task, and that will be it for them. I sure hope that they will meet both of these deadlines.

even my shortest (all 22 or dyfl) is over 14 hours each.

Well I'm out for a few hours.... But I think I might have saw a TTBF? As in a Tennessee Tony with some Big Foot Fetish action? maybe TT-BFF ;)

Crazy times but a Team Tony lives on or BigFooted folk anyway!

Go slow and long on the Prime Challenge!

Thanks for the update. 😎
These tasks definitely show the difference in hardware. Need to look into some upgrades in the near future.

Still missing a couple of key players. Waiting for a big dump near the end?🤔
Only one I can think of is skillz, and he was on vacation, a cruise I think. In a day I am sure he will show up.

I sent some results from some small verification tasks now. Maybe I did it as sort of a xii5ku was here graffito in @Ken g6's stats. Or merely because the reporting deadlines of these tasks drew near. Or perhaps a little of both.

Still missing a couple of key players.
I wish I could be a 'key player' like I might have been in one or another CPU challenge. But my last GPU purchase was five years ago, in our epic Folding@Home marathon with Brony@Home. :-)

Anyway, looks like you guys are rocking this challenge.

Right after the start of the challenge I managed to download everything I wanted (and on top of that, got the mentioned proof tasks which I didn't want), so that's good.

But this morning I had another multi-hour cable outage. Either the provider didn't fix anything, or they did but broke something else in the process. It's a device failure, they say. Their new ETA for a fix is Monday evening. :-|

Maybe the right thing for me to do would be to give it up already and switch from the cable provider to an ADSL provider. I would trade an uncertain chance of better availability for even lower upload band"width" at same or higher costs. But believe it or not, there are plenty of regions here in Germany with even worse Internet connectivity.

we have 50 mph winds. I had just a blip in power, but that all it took to fubar every computer in the house. after 2 hours, I might be all up again, still checking. And I took this opportunity to install the APS that @Skillz told me about ($48 for 650 watt). So most of this will not happen again.

Your anecdote is breaking my perception of Germany as a country where everything technological must be of the finest quality. Probably your communications companies use just as much cheap imported stuff as ours do, though.
