This challenge has been a tough one, normally I try to shoot for a top 10 finish, but the competition has gotten pretty intense! Looks like I may end up rounding out the top 13.

Some days I am not certain whether outlasting loved ones is a blessing or a curse. It's a wound that scars over, and the older we get, the more scarred up we get. All my immediate family including my little sister are gone, yet unlikely as it seemed to me as a reckless young man, I stubbornly persist. RIP to all the loved ones that we have lost, may we continue to honor them with our words and deeds.

It's still ≈2 weeks off until the "π≈22/7" challenge at PPS-LLR, but I had a look at the subproject status.
  • About the Proth Prime Search
  • It's a prime finding project — no 'conjecture credit bonus'.
  • Recent average CPU time is less than 2 hours — no 'long job credit bonus'.
  • If you find a prime there, it won't be record-breaking, but should still make it into the top-5k list, AFAIU.
  • On Linux x86-64, the exe is sllr2_1.1.0_linux64_201114.
  • On a Haswell CPU, for the current candidates in progress and "loaded" candidates, LLR2 chooses "all-complex FMA3 FFT" of either 200K or 240K length (1.6…1.9 MB data size), mostly the latter.

Haven't I seen this movie? Souperman Returns? He certainly seems to have powers and abilities far beyond those who aren't in the clouds. ;)

Of note: I got this email:
Dear Primefinder,

Congratulations! Our records indicate that a computer registered by you has found a unique prime number. This computer is running BOINC, is attached to the PrimeGrid project, and is assigned to the Proth Prime Search (LLR2). What makes this prime unique is that it's large enough to enter the Top 5000 List in Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database.

Since you are the finder, you will be credited with the discovery.

PrimeGrid can report the prime on your behalf. If you'd like PrimeGrid to report the prime, please edit your PrimeGrid preferences page. Under the Reporting primes to the Prime Pages section, enable automated prime reporting to give permission. YOUR REAL NAME and SURNAME are required by the Prime Pages to report primes. Your name must be properly formatted as First name Last name. For example: John Smith

Now I edited my preferences so it will give me credit, no idea how long it will take.

Anybody else HERE ever get a top 5000 prime ? Mine is number 1,522 ! See below for details

Yes, I think I have 3 or 4 of them now.

edit
6 of them in T5K plus 1 that isn't big enough from my list of 7 primes. I got a few DC's also, but no credit for them on T5K.

I did, many many moons ago. I chose NOT to report it under my real name, I was still relatively "internet anonymous" at the time. Now I kind of regret that, it would have made pretty neat resume or obituary material.

Regardless, it has long since fallen out of the "top 5000" list, many more and bigger primes have been discovered since then.

I think mine was like 800,000 digits long or something huge like that. Kinda crazy, but BOINC and PrimeGrid is amazing that way.

10 or more prime numbers have been found during this challenge so far.
(source)

With a bit of delay, the PPS primes will show up in this list: https://www.primegrid.com/primes/primes.php?project=PPS&factors=XGF&sortby=date
(source)

As of a few hours ago, the PPS project advanced to test candidates with >1,000,000 digits (source), thereby stepping onto the toes of the PPS MEGA subproject. The difference between PPS and PPS MEGA is no longer simply the count of digits of the test candidates now, but, tentatively, the "optimum testing depth" (source). — Edit: From what I understand, PPS MEGA is now simply continuing to search for ever larger Proth primes, whereas PPS is concentrating on searching for Proth primes with a certain likelihood to be a factor of a Generalized Fermat number at the same time.

It's Souperman vs. @Skillz for the lead. Does that "z" stand for "Zod"? :p

I worry sometimes that we're producing too many greenhouse gases. It looks like the Antarctic Crunchers have melted behind us.
