Galumpkis week on the forum!

With team member inspiration since last Sunday, I continue to enjoy plenty of leftovers and a side standalone meatloaf, because of Gluttony.. ;) Pre-Thanksgiving challenge. A challenge within a challenge? Next week the challenge will likely be trying to fit into pants.

Back on topic, a voltage starved (something in my home needs to be on a diet) 1050TI! is spitting out roughly a task an hour.

Maybe, but not just yet. Wait to see if SETI.Germany manages to pass AMD Users, and then consider adding the 4th place team that point. :p

Or just have it be whoever is in the top three spots behind us, and adjust the names as needed. At the current rate, we will be outpacing the next three teams (no matter who they are) very soon. Our hourly output has been steadily increasing for the past 16 hours or so while the other teams have been pretty much stable in their output during that time..

PrimeGrid seems to be down right now. And I didn't bunker enough. :(

Edit: They're back up. :)

Meanwhile, congrats to @VirtualLarry on your AP26! :)

I don't have inside knowledge of the causes, of course, but: These workunit sizes are a bit smaller than in usual PG challenges, after all.¹ It has happened before in one or another semi-recent challenge with small WUs that the server ran into mild difficulties, e.g. couldn't keep up with the intended 15 minutes of stats cycles. It can only go downhill now in this type of challenges, until the next server upgrade, or some fundamental changes in the server config maybe. (E.g., the number of tasks assigned per work request, which is currently 1...)

________
¹) Plus, there are a few quite enthusiastic contestants at the top of the scoreboard.

They rebooted the server about an hour ago. This was also posted to the Primegrid Discord -

@everyone That last crash wasn't the normal network problems we see every few months. Somebody, or something, was doing an awful lot of queries against the database -- enough to bring the system to a crawl. This wasn't normal activity. If anyone was doing anything unusual, for example screen scraping or statistics gathering, or anything like that, please contact me or Rytis, privately if you would prefer. I'm not trying to blame anyone, but it's possible somebody has got something running that is malfunctioning.

One of my rigs that I checked, had finished four or five GPU WUs, and was in a communications back-off time-out waiting 27 minutes for the project.

Due to my unreliable internet link, I have set my buffers to ~1/2 day.
Before the server crash I was in place 18, right after it in place 13.

That is, the folks in places 17…13 had set very small or no buffers.

We're really running away with this one. Yes, there's a vast distance between us and the next teams.

Great for the Team!

I'll remind everyone that garlic and cabbage can also produce GAS points. Just a bonus if you choose to make these challenges a full body experience!

Ugh, 3 rigs on PrimeGrid (10 GPUs total), and one of my mining rigs, were down because my Wireless Ethernet Bridge must have glitched, or perhaps the base router. Got that working again, not sure how long it's been down.

I guess they have figured out by now what the source was, haven't they? >:-D

I know, my text smiley is showing an evil laughter…
However, this was a challenge at a project with very small workunits. A server crash during such a challenge, while unfortunate*, should not be overly surprising. (To anybody who paid attention to PG challenges during recent years, that is.)

edit 2: *) yet not unavoidable on their part, IMO

One more PS:
The PrimeGrid owners have the organization and implementation of these challenges in their own hands (unlike, e.g., Formula Boinc sprints). And all of their server settings are their own choice. Such as <request_delay>, the number of tasks assigned to a single work request, or the <report_immediately> property of their tasks.

Wow, almost double the next team!

I think I'll post this reminder, in case someone was using rented systems:

Michael Gutierrez said:
ABORTING WU's allows them to be recycled immediately; thus a much faster "clean up" to the end of a Challenge. DETACHING, RESETTING, and PAUSING WU's causes them to remain in limbo until they EXPIRE. Therefore, we must wait until WU's expire to send them out to be completed.

Likewise, if you're shutting down the computer for an extended period of time, or deleting the VM (Virtual Machine), please ABORT all remaining tasks first. Also, be aware that merely shutting off a cloud server doesn't stop the billing. You have to destroy/delete the server if you don't want to continue to be charged for it.

Thank you!

Thanks for the stats!

I can't imagine the trouble you had to go through to avoid numeric overflows when you collected these stats. ;-)
