The buffer is getting better. Good thing too because it looks like quite a race behind us.

Looks like we won by just over a xii5ku-length. ;)

Thanks for the stats. That was fun. And now I know my main rig is slightly unstable, for some reason. :p

Nothing like a little hard-driving PrimeGrid calculations to shake the gremlins out.

Mining killed it. Just stop mining, and it may recover. Thats the problem with it :)
You know, you're probably right. Sigh. This PC hasn't had an easy life. I burned out two NICs and a number of GPUs in it. (Not same PSU in all cases, PSU had been changed.)

If the name is to be believed, the next challenge is happening all the time. But results for Euler's Constant Challenge won't count until the 23rd. ;)

From the other thread, about the December challenge:
The PG Geminids Shower Challenge is mainly a GPU race, though CPU works in one of the subprojects (GFN-21). I am not sure if CPUs are worth running in it, though. I'll put CPU in it if the gang thinks it's worthwhile.
From the PrimeGrid preferences page:
GFN-21: 20% long job credit bonus
GFN-22: 50% long job credit bonus
DYFL: 75% long job credit bonus
I.e. there is a hefty bonus attached to the latter two (which are not available on CPU), or vice versa, there is a considerable malus attached to GFN-21 in this challenge.

Also: GFN-21-CPU: 392 hours recent average CPU time = bring many cores and a good deal of patience.

So, forget CPU's... Well, then I am out. Cancer wins over prime numbers.

I think I will use CPUs in the upcoming 3-days AP27 challenge (in addition to all GPUs of mine), but most likely not in the 10-days GFN challenge.

My GPU resources are even more tiny than my CPU resources, but I plan to run what little I have for both of the upcoming PrimeGrid challenges.

Good to hear.

It's a long shot, but we have a chance (slim one) to take 1st place overall in the PG challenge. Sadly, we do not control that destiny. Which makes it a slim chance, but we can come in 2nd overall if we take 1st in the remaining two challenges.

Sadly, I was going to try to add a laptop with a mobile Quadro RTX 3000 into the mix for a few days, but I can't get Windows, GPU-Z, or BOINC to say that the GPU actually has OpenCL support, so it can't run the AP-27 tasks. I've tried reinstalling the Quadro drivers multiple times, and even tried removing those and installing the regular GTX/RTX drivers with no luck. It will run CUDA tasks just fine, but the AP-27 OpenCL tasks fail immediately with an error that the system can't identify any OpenCL devices. :(

That's weird for sure.

All my stuff is setup, just gotta click the start button in 4 hours and 50 minutes.

Question... I thought primegrid was all CPU. Is there a GPU task ? Whats the config ?

Question... I thought primegrid was all CPU. Is there a GPU task ? Whats the config ?

It depends on the sub project. Some sub projects run better on GPUs and some run on CPUs.

For this particular challenge the AP27 subproject can run on both CPUs and GPUs, but the GPU tasks (for a decent GPU) can be completed in about 15 minutes or less while even a good, fast CPU will take hours.

No config necessary. Just login to your PG account and uncheck all projects except the AP27 one. Then make sure it's only selected to run on Nvidia (or AMD) GPUs and not on CPUs.

edit
This thread has lots of information about the sub project in the challenge

And the main page at https://www.primegrid.com/ has a count down timer of what the event starts.

Do not forget. Work units are only counted if they are downloaded AFTER the start of the event and returned BEFORE the start of the event. So do not start too early as those Work Units will not count.
