I might have a surprise for my competitors at some point after 07/29/2020 22:00 UTC, but if so, it'll be a pleasant one. :-|

We're not quite halfway done. Remember, what they say: "It's a marathon, not a Sprint!" ;)

Looks like we're secure in 6th...pending a Sprint.

Yewz guyz iz goin' kinda slow. I started almost 2 days late. For what it is worth, I am running 8 threads/4 tasks per three 3950X CPUs. Maybe I can catch bill1024 before the FB Sprint is announced....maybe.

Well, surprise indeed... the power went out for over an hour. Thankfully, overhead lights, and the fridge still worked, but it was a leg at the apt. complex, because a relative's A/C and lamp wasn't working either, and they're in a different building.

Just got power back, probably going to take it easy. It was one of the hottest days of the year thus far today, probably a pretty high load on the grid.

The crunch times on your 3950X's are impressive. I'll switch to your settings to prevent you from passing me, lol. :)

8 threads per task may be a bit too much on this hardware.
(My own measurements are only valid for low Wattage per core though, and more memory bandwidth per core.)

--------
Average task size continues to creep up. I saw several 1120K long FFTs without zero padding when I checked on my computers this morning.

Yeah, but it's only a 12 hour experiment. 756% CPU usage with 8 threads per task (SMT on and used) and 392@ CPU usage with 4 threads per tasks (SMT on but not used) so the app doesn't scale to 8 threads very well.

I started with your recommendations, Stefan, and watched task progress for a few hours, trying different thread counts on different machines. Initially I didn't plan to run but 2 days, so I shrugged, set everything to 8t/4task per CPU and went about my business. After 30-ish hours I found myself mid-pack and gaining rapidly.

I've been having Internet problems, but I think I finally figured it out. The DHCP server on my DSL modem is really slow, so when the lease for my router renews, my whole Internet connection drops, for up to minutes. I don't know how many times this made my computers wait to get work. I set the router's IP to static, and I think it's working better now.

If you're talking about your WAN IP being provided by DHCP to your ISP-provided router/gateway, may not be such a good idea to set that to static IP. I don't want to hear about you going to jail for "theft of services" / "wire fraud".

Your router is supposed to attempt to renew your WAN IP halfway before the end of the lease. If it is unable to, and you actually lose your WAN IP lease, then your provider may be running out of IPv4 addresses.

There was someone posting in Networking, that their ISP had moved to CGNAT, which is why his online gaming would no longer work.

Relax. It's a LAN-to-LAN thing. The DSL modem creates a LAN, but only has one port. I just gave the router behind it a static IP.

The Sprint is the beloved/hated LHC. Beloved if you are good with the VM's, hated if not. :)

I cut out possibly one batch (of three) WUs per 2x 3600 CPUs early, didn't want to wait after the race to have to finish out WUs for 6 more hours, and was anxious to get back to mining. Plus, I figured we pretty-much had a lock on 6th place anyways. :)

Bump for a challenge I think you'll like. I think you'll like a good chance to find a prime. :)

And if not, maybe you'll like bacon? ;)

Ok, whew, that was a PITA, had to fix (remove) an overclock on a Ryzen R5 1600 in a Rexgears II case, it was overheating (93C! And blank-screening!).

But once I got that taken care of (thought that it might be the ThermalTake "bulk packed" 600W Gold PSU, you know how ThermalTake is with their PSUs sometimes), things are GO.

Got 2x Ryzen R5 3600 CPUs, and 2x Ryzen R5 1600 CPUs, all crunching the PrimeGrid challenge project (hopefully!).

The challenge has started! It looks like we have a FB sprint going at the same time. But the sprint will go one day longer. So fry your bacon - I mean CPUs - while you can! ;)
