Interesting. I have never had an invalid result with any of my machines until this challenge =T

OK, I found out what it was. I switched to a newer, more efficient power supply which unfortunately had too much dip in the 12v and 5v rail. The old power supply has adjustable 12v and 5v so moving back to it solved my problems.

The old one is an OCZ Powerstream 600w with adjustable rails. The new one is an OCZ Modstream 600w which is more efficient but doesn't have adjustable rails. The Modstream is running great on a secondary machine right now

Was this measured with a multimeter? Software readings are unreliable.

it wasn't but I'd expect the software readings to be consistent. even if the new supply was right and the old one was over volted, my settings relied on the old power supply. on top of this, my other system has no issue with the new power supply
