I've heard lots of talk about Prime95 to test their OC'd cpu's, ect.

What exactley does it do? whats it for?

Is it good to run on a newly built pc to "break it in" ?

Prime95 searches through, looking for Mersenne Prime numbers.

It, however, has gained a reputation around the O/Cing world as a great stability tester. As it's working with prime numbers, and lots of accuracy is needed, it will pick up almost any error with hardware, or if your CPU/RAM is overclocked too far. My setup at home will run perfectly "stable" doing what i want it to do (Seti@home 24/7, web, email, games etc) but it will fail within about 30 seconds of starting the Prime95 torture test!

Most people say that if their CPU can run P95 for 24hrs without an error, then their overclock is stable :)
