I'm sure there is something very basic I'm doing wrong, but when I go into Prime95 and select the Torture Test; this is what I get.

Perhaps your OC is too high.
Windows might boot up, but that is not a good way to test stability...

I've been running like this forever, and have never had a lock up. I just got P95 today to see if its worth anything.

I don't believe in Prime too much anymore.....It's funny how one can throw anything at a PC...game for hrs and hrs...but Prime will run to 10 minutes.....

if your system cant prime95 then it wont be able todo any serious tasks.

playing games is not a serious task ~ actually games are very easy compared to something like DivX encoding or 3d rendering.

:)

divx encoding test? just get a DVD, rip it, and keep it on your hard drive for stability testing... why do you need a separate test? just do it

did you guys ever come up with that divx encoding test???

we were hoping to be able to come up with a simple small "universal" package for stress testing.

so far weve got the "universal" part down, but there is no way to make it simple and small :( ;)
not to mention we cant provide instructions about certain parts of the proceedure in this forum.

your best bet would be to dload Gknot (Gordon Knot) and learn.

if we are able to come up with something you guys will know about it :)

I'm getting the same kind of behavior. Everything seems fine, no lockups, CPU temps havn't topped 44.5c, memory is at stable settings (7-3-3-2.5) but prime dies in like 20 seconds.

np ~ but just remember that someday you may try some new software/game that will crash your system, but at least youll know why.

I'm running prime95 and under tempertures it shows the motherboard as 45c and the cpu as 29c ......shouldn't that be the other way around?

that must have failed like within a couple minutes at max....maybe within a minute lol

i dont judge primarily on prime95, but a combo of stuff
its a factor tho...and ur situation shows a different number each time on the first test, which means mathematically its not stable. to the naked eye it might be stable, but internally speaking its not.

if i were getting an error like a few hrs down the raod i might be ok with it, but if i was getting an error on the 1st test, id definitely do something abou tit

but thats just me :)

FUnny...seriosly though.....I can run my spec below at 1.5volts and be stable doin everything except prime....it would fail in about 10 minutes.
I just bumped up my core voltage .....I had to bring it up to 1.6 volts(actual) for it to be stable in Prime.....it's been going to 2 hrs now while I've been surfin around.
It's just an opinion that Prime is not all end all. Being stable t your everyday tasks is whats important.

Practically speaking, if the comp does everything you need it to do NOW, then I guess its not worth worrying over. HOWEVER...my experience has been that if Prime95 results in errors, the problem will show up eventually. Like someone else said...the system could surft the net, play games fine, but eventually you'll do something that gives you a problem. When Prime95 fails me in the first calculation, its usually something pretty serious like RAM timings, voltages, etc....stuff that shows up in other applications pretty quick.

You could also try Super Pi, which is also pretty good as a stability tester.

If you computer can't run prime95 overnight, then it is not really perfectly stable. However, you may or may not care about the results.

exactly ;)
for some reason i dont want my system to crash and/or burn when im doing something important, so i make sure its 100% (or pretty damn close to it)stable

Okay, been bashing on it a while and still nada from Prime. I'm running an athlon xp 1700+ on an abit nfs-7 board. FSB is set to 166, multi to 8.5, vcore to 1.625 (yes, this is slightly underclocked and slightly over volted). Ram is mushkin value set to the most conservative values (7-3-3-2.5) available. Temps range from 40-46c give or take according to the winbond hardware doctor that shipped w/ the board. Prime runs for something like 10-15 seconds before it dies. Someone tell me what the heck might be going on?
