Does prime95 stress both cores at the same time?

Only if you run more than 1 instance. Bascily start one up, and set affinity to one core, and then start another, and set the affinity to the other core. You could also use Stress Prime which has a more user friendly interface, and does the same thing as prime95.

when I try to run another it just pops up the one thats running. Do I just test one CPU for a while then switch to the other? Also say I am ripping 2 DVD's at the same time do I need to set one to use one CPU and the other to use the second? Or does Windows do this for me?

If I need to how am I suppose to do that?

you are going to name them differently, say prime and prime1. I would also open up task manager and make sure the affinity is set for one processor for prime and the second processor to prime1...you get the picture.

Sniper, just download this: SP2004 Orthos. Orthos runs both cores, without needing two instances installed, and without having to manually set affinities.

But when actually mutlitasking does windows assign the cores? Or when one is being stressed on something the other takes over when something else is being done? Just wondering how dual core works exactly. I honestly probably don't need dual core but I couldn't turn down a 3800+ x2 for $99 shipped.

Windows handles the assingnment during actual multitasking, although you can still manualy set affinity as well.

will this stop if it finds a error like prime does? Also whats the blinking red paging icon mean under rounds?
