Prime95 + 3dMark at same time

Hiyas...

I got another stupid question ... Im doing testing with Prime95 on a new XP2600 (333) ..

Testing various multipliers at 'Prime95 passed FSB's'

Things look bleak as far as pushing this chip past its 2085 rating. But it shines on the FSB at that speed.
(I only unlocked the L1's ... I havent seen any unlocks on these chips so far)

Anyway ... my question is ....

Prime95 runs fine by itself... but ... when I jump into IE 6.0 to look around ... I freeze...

Should I be using Prime95 when I'm not using the computer?

Prime95 should be able to run all the time whether as the sole program or in the background...many will run it and loop 3dmark or other test.....Prime95 by default is low priority so when other things need juice or cycles it releases it and runs at a lower speed.


On the other hand IE 6.0 by itself could likley e the issue as it is extremely bugging from what I have heard.....Run prime95 with 3dmark or pcmark or other programs and see if you get same freezing...This will isolate wheter IE and Microsuck are the issue.

I think this word - 'stable' is begining to be arbitrary

Just for instance ... I was running 11 x 192 FSB on this chip since I got it ... no Bleue screens
No lockups ... no visuals... passed Codecreatures ... 3dMark ... Memtest86 ... HotCPU ... mBench... N-bench

and runs Prime95 .... (by itself)

Now someone tells me it should run Prime95 and 3dMark at the same time.
When I run Prime95 ... my temp is already 44.5C (from 28.5C at idle)

So ... tell me now that Prime95 isnt pushing my CPU ... and Im supposed to run 3dMark also?

generally people run 3dmark+prime95 as a type of double whammie for the cpu, gpu, nb
if its not stable (cpu, gpu, northbridge) then it will probably show by crashing/restarting/going to desktop/freezing

I play Q3 while Prime is running, lol. Once Q3 starts, Prime drops to like 18 to 30% CPU time.

Ok ... I need help now ...

How many of you people out there can run Prime95(22.12.1) and 3dMark2001se(330) at the SAME TIME?

I just backed my setting to default ...

XP2600+(333) ..... 12.5 x 166 = 2085 @ 1.65v

Still cant run both .... 3dMark freezes on Dragothic low

any ideas?


Oh ... this is for Champ ... how do you run 3dmark and CodeCreatures at same time? Both are 3d app tests...

If one is minimized ... wots the point?

Not the Vid Card ... (runs all 3dBenches ... all my games .... also ... removed PS oc also ... not VC)
Not the Mem ......... (ran 10 loops of all 11 tests in memtest86)
Not CPU - 28.5C idle - (HOTCPU - 44.5C)

MB went bad?

or maybe its this lingering problem with my Enermax PS +5v and Vsb rails. (both drop below 4.5 on load)

what is Vsb?

that was the next thing i was bout to suggest
psu
dropping belw 4.5v for +5v will most of the time cause instabilities

see if you can unhook cdroms/extra harddrives/fans and thentry

What a dissapointment ... I bought Enermax cuz they are the best...
But ...
I didnt send it back cuz I didnt want to eat anymore shipping charges....

Guess I got it comming and going on this PS.

I got a thread in the Cases and Cooling on this matter ...

Someone said I can mod the PS with a 10k pot.
Guess I got to find a 10k pot and tear apart the PS.

Champ ... those are 12v devices ... right ... what will that do for 5v rail?


Oh ... and ... someone tell me what Vsb rail is for? (drops below 4.39v sometimes on load)

Champ ... I tried that 12v test (again)

I tried unpluging devices 2 days ago .. to see if the voltages would rise (Not).

But It worked for this test this time ... for running BOTH Prime95 and 3dMark at same time.
(even though the volts didnt rise)

I guess I have a threashold to deal with until I get the mod on the PS done.

So ... Im gonna re-add these untill I find reach my threashold.

Guess I go find a 10K pot tomorrow ... hopefully RadioShack around the corner has them.
(or at least a replacement resistor)

although im not 100% sure, i think its like an auxilary power source for when your ocmputer is in standby or suspend to ram mode or something like that

well i thought perhaps lightening the load on the psu may help your situation, and it may have it seems

to do the adjustment, bust open the psu and see if it already has an adjustable pot (i dont think it does, but why not see anyways lol)
just make suer not to touch anything that looks like a cap (the discharge can kill you)

a general rule, if you dont know what it is, DONT touch it
only touch those things that you know you can outlined in a guide or whatever you plan to read while doing the mod/adjustment

ya ... I'm back at 11x191.4 = 2105

Prime95 ran all nite ... no probs ...

(I have the 9700on its own lead now, and re-arranged the fans power plugs)
Only thing still not plugged in is the extra HD I got - (backups)

I also tried runnin 3dMark at the same time again too ...

It got pretty far ... before it froze.

So ... I'm off to RadioShack now ...

Oh ... and ... I want to run this by you all ... about discharging the PS ...

I usually Shutdown ... flip the manual power switch on PS to OFF.

THEN I press the Power button and reset switch to clear the PS charge.

(That last step usually spins the fans and the MB LEDs light momentarily)

my Q is ... Are the Capacitors cleared in the PS then?

i think that just clears the caps on the mobo?
im not sure, but i can tell you it didnt work on my friends psu.....
