PRIME ribeye is now $15/lb at Costco?!

I remember last year USDA Chocie was like $5/lb and Prime was $7/lb.

THis year it's double the price?!

WTFBeefSkyrocket?!

Yeah beef is out of sight these days. Even the cheap cuts are expensive.

I haven't been impressed with Costco's prime beef in the past. I'm sure it genuinely grades prime, but if you're selective with the choice they have available you can do just as well at a lower price. Prime makes it so you can grab and go, but Costco's Choice can be pretty much as good if you sift through the case.

due to the draught in texas last year a lot of ranchers had to reduce their herds, which lead to cheap beef prices last year but rising beef prices this year as there's less cow to eat.

Try the short rib from Costco. Cheaper and really really tasty. Has really nice beef flavor somewhere inbetween a ribeye and a strip, and has fine marbling.

USDA Prime ribeye for $7/lb? I am skeptical.

In late 2008/early 2009 when Costco first started carrying USDA Prime ribeye, you could sometimes get it for $7-8/lb. Choice was around $5-6. But that price only lasted like 3 months. Since then Prime Ribeye prices at Costco has steadily climbed and is now around $16-17 /lb. You can still find USDA Prime Top Sirloin for $7-8/ lb at Costco. That's good deal.

OP is totally incorrect that USDA Prime Ribeye was $7/lb last year. It was never even close to being below $10/lb. It fluctuated between $14-17 all year long. About double the price OP is claiming.
