That's a good deal, the 2700X clocks quite a bit better than the 2700. At least, from what I've seen.

I resisted this for around 36 hours, but I just bought it. It was just too good to pass up, and I grabbed an Asrock X470 Taichi on sale as well.

I haven't used an AMD powered system for my PC in 13+ years, so I wonder how long it will be before I get accused of being an AMD shill on here? :p

You never posted before about running a Ryzen rig, or upgrading to one, before now? Really? *scratches head*

Nope. I've been with my 6700k build that's listed in my sig since 2015 (although I replaced the Gigabyte motherboard with the Taichi). It was the 2500k and 3770k before that, and various Intel CPUs before that. My last personal PC that was AMD had to be back in the Athlon XP days.

I did build my oldest son a system with a Ryzen 1700X a few years back, but I never use it as he's always on it.

I have just noticed some users think our site is pro AMD, so that's why I brought up the "shill" thing.

Maybe that's where I thought I saw you mention it, your son's rig.

And Pro-AMD? Well... we enthusiasts like the latest and greatest, what can I say. For me personally, I've been an early Ryzen adopter, because I saw the value for money, and an escape from the strangle-hold of Intel's dominance that was true up until then. I mean, I build rigs with both brands of CPUs, I'm not strictly partisan, but right now, I "prefer" AMD Ryzen CPUs. Bang-for-buck is incredible.

I have to say, I do mostly desktop browser-app stuff, some productivity, very little gaming, and quite a bit of crunching / DC work, and Ryzen has worked out great thus far for that.

I'm "experimenting" with my shiny new R5 3600, I think 3rd-Gen is Awesome, the best Ryzen Gen yet. And I JUST flashed a 1.0.0.3AB BIOS for my Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO WIFI ATX board, and all of my SATA ports are back, and my RAM (all four slots), is still cruising along at XMP speeds (3000).

But 1st-Gen and 2nd-Gen are still solid CPUs, overall, so don't be afraid to pick one up, if you've been in the Intel camp for so long.

There's a head-to-head review with benchmarks and graphs from a forum user, between a 6700K @ 4.5Ghz, and a 3700X (or maybe 3900X).
