I have read several posts about this Prime 95 util (?). What is it and what does it do and where can I find it?

I post here in the Hardware section because thats where I keep seeing it mentioned.....

TYIA

FFT's meaning.....?

but thanx for the link. I found that link already and wasn't sure if thats the prog I needed.

The Math

Fourier Fast Transformation. Its the same thing SETI uses, but Prime95 seems to utilize it "more", offering a better stability test.

So when I get Error's during a Torture test, I shouldn't be alarmed?

The error I get is as follows:

"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.4928175 expected less than 0.4"

I have no idea what it means...thats just what I get

Are you overclocking? If so, please revert all settings back to their defaults and run again. If you still err out, please download Memtest86 and let that run for a few passes.

Cheers!

I am not overclocking, she's running at rated speed. I'll run a few passes of memtest and see what happens.

Ran 4 passes of memtest v.3 and it found absolutely no errors. My computer does run stable and very rarely crashes (with the exception of a game I play that is notorious for crashing everyones PC).

What next???

How hot is the northbridge? The CPU temp is ___°C when running P95 TT?

Getting errata in P95 on a nominal speed system and not getting memory errors is very rare.

How long does P95 run before it errs out?

Is the folder in which P95 is executed from on the same drive as your operating system? If it's on a CD or network volume the test can often fail although rounding errors usually point to CPU, Caches, and main system memories.

Cheers!

CPU has never gone above 41 degrees while running any app...including P95. It idles at 39 degrees.

It usually errors out within 1 minute of running the program. And it is on the same drive as Windows (XP).

In my BIOS i can disable either L2 EEC checking, or disable L1 & L2 cache. There is no option for just disabling L2 cache. I disabled L2 EEC checking and still got the same error on P95. Should I disable both L1 and L2?

You can but you'll go crazy if you do. (disable L1)

Disabling L1 on the fastest systems suddenly places you back into 1985 as far as speed goes. Try it and you'll need more hourglasses than Christian Ludloff or Lance Ito has to time your bootup! :Q

You should be able to disable L2. You may be able to do it via software with one of those H'oda programs but I don't have the procedure to do that nearby.

Cheers!

as mentioned in mayn threads before, i got errors with prime95 with no overclock, good crucial ram, and quality enermax psu...
prime95 can munch on my balls

If it's running in a non nominal state, you'd better be careful because it could munch off your manlihood! 😉

Cheers!

You can have good everything....that doesn't mean there isn't a problem. Its just that it's a problem you are willing to live with 🙂

I just installed and ran Prime95 for the first time today on my new PC. I ran it for 6 hours and during that time it was the only app running and used 100% of my cpu the entire time. I didn't receive any errors.

I haven't tried any other stress tests yet, but I want to make sure everything is running good before I oc.

So does that mean I can assume my PC is stable??

Well I get an error within 1 minute of running Prime 95 and my PC is very stable.
