DAVENPORT, Iowa ?? A 31-year-old Roman Catholic priest has been charged with helping make and distribute the "date-rape" drug GHB.

The Rev. Jeffrey Windy, 31, was released to his parents' custody Tuesday after posting $100,000 bond. He had been arrested Friday and charged in federal court along with two other men, Timothy O'Brien and Bradley Bush, both of Davenport.

According to court documents, Windy and O'Brien were seen making the drug at O'Brien's house last May. Undercover narcotics agents allegedly later bought the drug from O'Brien.

Court documents also said a chemical company's records showing 25 gallons of a solvent used in the making of GHB were sold to St. Patrick's Church in Sheffield, Ill., where Windy worked.

Windy was suspended from his duties at St. Patrick's Church and St. Margaret Mary's in Wyanet, Ill., pending the outcome of the case, said Kate Kenny, spokeswoman for the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.

Both Sheffield and Wyanet are towns of about 1,000, about 50 miles east of the Quad Cities.

During Tuesday's detention hearing, U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas J. Shields agreed to release Windy to his parents, who live in Peru, Ill. He will stay with them on home detention until his trial, which has not been scheduled.

Windy's attorney, Doug Scovil, did not return phone calls to his Rock Island, Ill., office Tuesday evening.

GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate, is known as a date-rape drug for its ability to incapacitate people and leave them vulnerable to sexual assault. It is also used as a hallucinogen and to stimulate muscle growth in bodybuilders.

yea, i'm still waiting to see the traditional "he wasn't a real christian"... those are always funny.

<< 'Good' or 'real' Christians can do aweful things just like everyone else. It's just that most who really are Christians tend not to. >>

everyone else? i don't believe that the percentage of christians that commit crimes is any less than any other religion, or lack thereof.

Speaking as a Christian, people of all races, religions and creeds do horrendous things all the time. You know this, it happens every day. Please don't make this a reason to bash religious people, evil people come in every shape and size. John Wayne Gacy was a clown at childrens hospitals, does that make all clowns evil? This man, if he is indeed guilty, is a sick sick person, and he would have been sick no matter what religion he decided to spend his life in, or even if he was Atheist.

no doubt, i wasn't bashing christians, just making fun of those who are always saying that kind of stuff 🙂

well, the article says that it can be used for a hallucinogen or steroids, so we don't really know whether he was going to use it as a date rape drug, or if he wanted to get high, or if he wanted to get ripped.

okay n/m, i guess he was just distributing it.

Fry his A$$.
But I'm sure the Church will cover it up, just as they always do. Just like none of their priests has ever molested a child.
He'll get the Diocese Legal Defense, They'll drag it out in court, for years, until he's old, and too sick to stand trial, just like they do w/ every bad tings priests ever do.
F$CKERS!
Edit - Flame suit on.

Obviously they don't cover it up well, if you know about it. 😉 And no flames here, I am used to hearing how bad my religion is. Unfortunately, people choose to judge us all by a few bad apples.

They are really gonna cover it up now.

Vatican Issues New Rules on Pedophile Priests

Personally I think this is very wrong

I argree w/ you baffled, Individuals should never be 'bashed' for their beliefs! 😉
Unless their religious beliefs are totally wrong, and hurtful (like the KKK). But that's their view, just don't ask me to be a part of it!
I don't bash the Catholic Religion, either, I'm a recovering Catholic. 😉

I read that News story, and it SICKENED me. But at least they're admitting it now. Or are they? 😕

LOL, is that a twelve step program? 😉

I don't think, from that article Antisocial-Virge posted that they are going to admit anything. This part bothers me the most:

The letter made no mention of whether a bishop should inform civil authorities if a Church court found a priest guilty.

I just find it so wrong the ones that could do something about this seem to afraid to touch it. Why can't they just say oops, and admit their mistakes? 🙁

And yet you defend it when Muslims say Osama bin Laden isn't a *real* Muslim. (That's always funny)

Thats sick. And you just KNOW all those proud people from Iowa will say he wasn't a "real" Iowan or a "good" Iowan. Those dumb Iowans

Take it from personal experience (long story, but the short of it is I have family members who were 'abused' by a priest).
The Catholic Church has Never made a Mistake, according to them. There's no way a man of the cloth would commit such a heinous crime.
This Story was pretty good, Bishop Law apologized, and has caught a LOT of flack over it. At least this is a step in the right direction.

Who knows. I was just assuming...unless you *do* think it's okay to judge Muslims by the actions of Osama bin Laden

i don't judge muslims by the actions of osama, nor do i judge christians by this drug dealer - priest. i'm not seeing your point.

It's what I call a 32 step program, 16 years under Catholic Teachings, then another 16 trying to forget it!
and I'm on step 29. my Brother is on step 42, and he says he's not fully recovered yet! 😉

If I'm not mistaken, funny would mean you disagree...

Now, I was pointing out that I think it's funny that you would take this guy's actions as a reason to bash Christianity but you'd get lynched/banned/tarred/feathered if you tried to use a similar nut's actions to bash his whole religion

that's correct, i do. that doesn't mean that i think all christians are bad people. there is a difference between that, and recognizing that he is christian. for example, i recognize that hitler was german. however, i do not think that germans are in general bad, or hitler-like. now, if germans started saying stuff like "oh, well, he wasn't a real german, i would laugh at them, like i laugh at the aforementioned christians.

wanna show me where i was bashing christianity?
