Last time I bought a car there was a web site that would show a bell curve for prices paid for a given car and MSRP. Anyone knows what was that site name? I just found fake sites with basically no useful data.

Thanks,

GG

http://www.truecar.com

you can also use http://www.edmunds.com/new-cars/ TMV as another guide... it shows a breakdown of each option's Invoice vs. MSRP so if the dealer says the car only comes with X and Y as a must-take option then you know how much more to add to it.

There was one other site that I have long forgotten. :(

Careful with truecar, lots of dealers won't even honor it anymore. (SoCal anyway)

Generally speaking, I've found that if I can't do significantly better than Edmunds' TMV or Truecar's Target Price, then I know I'm paying too much.

The only exceptions are cars with fixed pricing or new cars that are greatly in demand.

edmunds town hall forums has prices paid/buying experiences threads for many makes/models, but like everything on edmunds it can be difficult to find.

(no mr. edmunds, separating 'first looks' 'reviews' and 'comparison tests' into different categories for search purposes make no sense.)

Thanks, that's helpful info.

For fun, I just spec'd a 78k MINI Cooper hardtop and there it is: "actual" transactions showing that people haggled the price to get it under MSRP! Some bargains at 74k. Even harder to believe is they actually offer a MINI for that price. Easy to believe that there idiots who would actually pay it.

-couldn't figure out how to add a screen grab.

wait 78k for half a car? Does it provide happy endings?

Or maybe you're not in the US? In which case these sites won't help...

Depends on the dealer/brand. Honda has basically come out against it...yet when we were looking at Acuras a few months ago dealer prices were almost exactly the same as the Truecar price.

Go figure.

MBZ doesn't use it, Nissan apparently didn't either so said one of my friends.

Go figure though they wouldn't use my truecar price but I still managed to get lower than it (2012 ML350)
