Price to have network installed in home

How much is a reasonable labor charge to crimp Cat5, run the Cat5, and setup a home network for a 3 computer home?

depends... like... is one computer in the basement, other in kitchen, and last one in the attick?

btw... did i spell attick wrong?

Could be a lot, to go through walls and stuff.

It also depends how "nice" you want it done.
Have you ever considered wireless??
I setup my home network as half wireless half wired an I'm loving it.
I can bring my laptop to the toilet and still ICQ 😀

heh ive got cat five runnin across my floor, speaker and phone wire too, its a nuisance but i cant really do anything about it unless i buy longer wire to run it above the doorway

question for u guys with wireless... i remember reading an article by anand comparing wireless and hpna. seemed like anand gave the nod to hpna becuz wireless suffered from interference. is this true?

I've got wireless in my house, and when my wife starts jabbering on the 2.4Ghz cordless phone, my connection is dropped. I can't do anything until she hangs up the phone. I have changed through all 11 channels on the WAP, and tried changing channels on the phone, but it doesn't matter.
I also have a 2.4gig wireless video sender that I use to send my Tivo to the computer room. Unless I have it positioned just right, I get huge static and a loud pop every second on the TV when the WAP is powered on.

Ack.

There's got to be a better way!

wire it up yourself as there is pretty much always a way to get the wires where you want them. Are you talking about a house built on a slab, basement, or crawl space? I just did mine with no experience and it just took a lot of time, thats all and I had to fish them through the walls from the upstairs attic

<< I am the one doing the wiring and was wondering how much to charge. >>

depends dude. if its 3 pc's in one room... should be pretty cheap. if the pc's are all over the place.. then rape them, becuz its gonna be a pain in the arse (to do it nicely at least).

price would depend on if I've got to go thru walls and ceilings to drop cable and put in wall plates, price woukd also depend on if the rigs already had nics installed and configured. Also,if they're wiring the whole house is a server closet gonna be needed ?

I'd say $30/hour but thats just something I pulled out of my arse!:Q

Took me like 8 hours total to do mine.

I am on a half wireless also. I got 3 computers all plugged in, and 2 laptops and a computer downstairs doing wireless, and I notice I have to reset the wireless hub every two days, otherwise the wireless computers can't even stream mp3s from the server. But I just unplug it for about 5 seconds and everything is good to go again.

I'm on a cabled Lan here but am thinking of adding wireless to my back room and possibly the basthroom, lol that would be a hoot at parties, hell my friends think I'm insane as it is with all the comps and the dual rig, might as well go all the way 🙂
