I have a friend offering to sell me a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop. I don't know much about it. I know it's less than 1.5 ghz, I *think* it has 128 megs of RAM, and the hard drive is definitely dying. The cd drive is dell propietary so I can't easily upgrade it to DVD or anything. I don't want to rip him off. What do you guys think?

Laptops don't depreciate as quickly as desktops do, and aside from the HDD thing it doesn't sound like it's in terrible shape or anything, it just needs a bit more RAM and then it could be fairly useful.

However, I'd say that if you actually need to be able to access DVD's in your laptop, drop it to 200 if it really cannot be upgraded. Otherwise it really makes no difference that it can't do DVD's.
