Previously Working Wi-Fi problem

My previously working Wi-Fi all of a sudden developed an intermittent problem, my laptop and my iPhone all of a sudden cannot connect thru the WiFi to the internet, my PC and my PS3 connected thru Ethernet to the cable modem have no problem connecting to the internet, the cable modem indicator lights and the cable modem WiFi settings page indicate nothing wrong, my iPhone WiFi connection settings page indicates intermittent on/off (~1 second) WiFi connection, any ideas how to fix this?

Cable modem: Ubee U10C020 Wireless EMTA
OS: Windows XP Professional, SP2

On something like that, I'd probably get w\ support from your isp and see if they need to replace the router.

My FIOS router was doing something similar where the wifi just kept dropping off. They just sent me another router and it fixed the wifi issues.

that's exactly what I suspected: defective router

but I wanted to see if there was anything that I could check before reporting it to my isp

thanks

Hmm. I would not rush to get a Wireless Router.

Your network topology sounds "Fishy".

I.e. you have devices connected directly to a modem. and others through WIFI.

May be you want to describe what devices you have and how every thing is connected.

Well I have my desktop PC and my PS3 connected to the cable modem thru ethernet cable, and my laptop and iPhone connected thru wireless.

ok I just went into the modem settings page, returned all wifi settings to default, chose channel 6, assigned the same previous wifi password and it worked!

i had been playing around the settings and I enabled "guest WLAN network" and i guess it didn't like it.

thanks for your help guys.

It seems to me that what you call a Modem is a modem/Router.

If you have a second Wireless Router connected after a Modem/Router, the Wireless Router should be configured this way.
