Do you think it is possible that previous to current recorded history a civilization far advanced than we might realize could have existed and been wiped out to near extinction and forgot about through time? There is so much found in archeology and written/oral stories that seem to reference things thousands of years ago that could have been civilization at a peak before widespread destruction. Who knows, but it is something I was thinking about just now...

With hominids to Modern homo sapien representing only 125k years of geologic history, and what we know of ocean levels--let alone existing technology at the time, such is incredibly doubtful. The only chance for this to have happened, it would be an unexplored part of the ocean--but even at a time when such place could have been settled, it predates the technology that allowed civilizations to prosper and develop such technologies by many thousands of years.

The most likely scenario, however, is that we discover that the civilizations we do know about were far more advanced than we give them credit. Greeks, Mayans--plenty of highly successful cultures, either well documented or not, are turning up technologies that we never thought possible at that time.

It's easy for such records to be erased when all such knowledge is kept in one place and burned down, or the "god du jour" sweeps in with his newly-saved followers and proceeds to erase all presence of these godless savages and their evil witchcraft.

such is the folly of man. :(

Why would it have to be in the ocean? For instance, an entire city was discovered in asia that is thought to be the precursor to Russia, but was originally only known about in written history. Many cultures and civilizations have been wiped out and replaced, cities built on cities. Jerusalem used to be Jebus, etc.

Natural or unnatural, or supernatural, causes could potentially destroy much of the evidence. There is so little we actually know about history past a few thousand years ago. The oldest book in the bible is 4000 years old and is more than likely just a moral story without any relevant history, with newer documents talking about events and locations that dated far before this. There is mention of differences in biology and technology, not to mention several widespread massive impacts on society. Some of these ancient events are described by all the cultures that existed then across the world, in what documents we can find. Given what has survived, all we are left with are questions and nothing to go on. The dust we walk on is more than likely history we cannot ever decipher.

I doubt there's one more advanced than we are now (I assume we're just talking about Earth civilizations). I do think a lot of people don't give much credit to past civilizations though, and instead of giving them credit for the amazing stuff they did, try to explain it with deities and aliens.

I prefer to think for myself.

You are gullible enough to believe that the Bible is true, despite a significant lack of evidence other than the names of a few people and places that are recorded in other historical records.

It's like me writing a fictional novel that involves the President, New York, and space aliens --and then getting incredibly stupid people to believe it and pass it down from generation to generation with nothing more than a collection of baseless stories.

Ya, you just LOVE to think for yourself. HAH. :awe:

Personally, I've been beginning to enjoy the notion that some advanced species brought primates [or mammals in general] to Earth, and tinkered with breeding lines to produce an ideal creature.
They are our Gods. They came back from time to time to help push civilizations in the right direction (as in, early tribal civilizations), and they were probably responsible for the plague that likely killed the Neanderthals.

And they took most of the Mayans.

I do! And yet you're not using it... Get back to ignoring me.

Most of the time, I don't bother clicking the link to show your post. Sometimes I do and most of the time I regret it. However, it's fun to point out your lies and bullshit.

Possibly but it would also mean they never made it to space as there would likely be satellites leftover which there isn't. Unless earths gravity was briefly lost or something very large passed by and pulled them all away.

Why would satellites have to be there to prove that? You can go to space without leaving anything behind.

If you could point out a lie next time that would be great.
