That's fine with me. I need a wagon but I'd hate to have to take a depreciation hit trading in my 2001 Accord now. If I'm forced to wait a year or so for the 6 wagon, perhaps that's good discipline. Plus I'll get to see how the initial Madza 6 units coming of the Flat Rock, MI assembly lines are holding up. I'm NOT happy that Ford is essentially building these cars and am concerned about quality/reliability after owning a Honda.

This car looks real nice. I had a '94 626 that I loved, right now I'm in a POS Grand Am and am looking for a new car around January...this little beauty could be the ticket.

Saw a RHD version of this this spring at the Detroit show, beautiful car. I think it will do well for Mazda. I like the interior a lot, but I have to admit that if I were in that market, I'd buy an Accord Coupe just because of past experience with Honda and the amount of miles I put on a car. A car would be a very long-term investment for me, I'd be expecting to get 200,000 miles out of it.

"A lot of Mazda6 intenders might find the four-cylinder mated to the five-speed manual to have the best balance and provide the most fun. After about 2500 to 3000 rpm, the four- cylinder was downright gleeful to flog. The V6 was, of course, more powerful, and therefore more fun to simply floor the throttle and haul, but we?d go for the four-cylinder with the manual. Mazda expects about two-thirds of buyers to choose the four."

I think AutoWeek is correct. At this point, I think I'd opt for the 2.3L 5spd combo. We all like power, of course, but the V6 brings added weight, marginally poorer handling, worse fuel economy and a higher acquisition cost.

They mention the development of a 2.8L I-5. That could be the best compromise.

Woah, woah, easy there. That's like saying a steaming plate of turds is an interesting option in a sea of boring sandwitches and burgers. ;)

Mechanically, I don't doubt that the Mazda is superior to the PT Cruiser. Or any small American sedan for that matter. But the Japanese mfrs could use some lessons in design from the Americans.

My comment wasn't anywhere near that level of analysis. I just think the PT Cruiser is the ugliest car since the Plymouth Prowler.

The Prowler is ugly? The Prowler is one of the coolest vehicles on the road. What looks good to you?

Although I suppose I shouldn't talk, I think BMWs are ugly.

I agree...the PT Cruiser looks like something a 30s mafia gangster would drive...if he was flamingly homosexual!

Hmmmmmm - I on the other hand, like the PTC, but find the Prowler really ridiculous (and I love more or less all BMWs, and regard them as the overall most-appealing automaker in the world). To each his own, I guess!

the 6's styling isn't very mundane (see: 626), and for a sedan thats supposed to look a bit racy it sure pulls it off a ton better than the fugly camry and accord. should have decent power though that torque number doesn't look all that great.

I feel sorry for anyone who buys the Mazda6 thinking it will have "made in Japan" quality. The Mazda6 will actually be built in Detroit! Too bad!

And it's more "built in Japan" than a honda built in Ohio or a toyota built in tennesee, or a Nissan built in Mississippi? Or even a *GASP* BMW built somewhere down south?

Point taken, but the problem is that Ford is building the new 6. Not Madza. Ford. Using good ol' boy UAW labor.

Personally, I think fords problems have more to with poor initial design and the decision to use inferior quality parts than it does to do with the actual production phase of the car.

Assuming that Mazda does the design and calls the shots on parts, then I'm not overly concerned.

And I like BMWs...except the 700 series. They look like they should set sail, not drive on the roads. :)

In terms of the me too sedans, I think the Mitsubishi Galant looks the best. I still like my car though. I drive an SVT Contour.

i like the new mazda 6... it looks nice, has decent power, and from what people say, it handles well too... methinks i'm gonna go test drive it when it comes out... however, i might be dissapointed... :D I drive a 7 with a huge streetport, with full exhaust/intake and a few other mods, i'm hopin' to be lookin' at at least 200RWhp and 2800 lbs w/ a 9000rpm redline :D:D:D:D:D:D

ok, this was a worthless post, i'm just sayin' i love mah new (new to me) car!

Check this out Subaru Legacy STi

Besides Chrysler I don't see how domestics have better design than the japanese. The car looks kind of small. Is the interior smaller than the Accord or Altima?

I agree...Chrysler has the best design team of the domestics. Nice, graceful lines. I don't know WTF the GM design department is smoking b/c their cars look like sh!t. Ford is OK for the most part. I really like what they've done with the Focus. It looks quite spiffy and the 5-door Focus is just awesome IMHO.

If the base is $14,500, another $3,000 should get you a faily well equipped 4 banger. I would imagine cruise, power windows/locks, and maybe ABS. Sounds like a winner to me.
