80% of Camrys, Altima, and Accords sold are 4-bangers. So what's your point?
Yep, not to mention the fact that his numbers are off.

The Mazda6 V6 has 220hp and the Altima has 240hp, not 255 (he must be thinking of the Maxima - different price class).

Obviously the people in Europe and Japan don't give a sh*t about a piddly 20hp. Intitial unit sales show it's selling 40% faster than expected.

I'm still curious about the curb weight. It says 2900 pounds for the V6! The I4 might be able to shave off another 100 pounds in engine weight and accessories/options, putting it down to 2800 pounds. How does this compare to a Camry, Accord, or Altima with a four cylinder? I know the altima is a porker, but how about the other two? It's 4 cylinder is already putting out roughly the same power, being a couple hundred pounds lighter is sure to help it feel quicker too.

According to Edmunds, a 4-cylinder Accord EX weighs 3109 lb, a 4-cylinder Camry LE weighs 3086 lb, and a 4-cylinder Altima SL weighs 3076 lb. I guess the Altima is no more of a "porker" than its competition, and the Mazda6 is the lightest of the bunch.

Actually, the '03 Altima 3.5SE has 245hp. :)
Oops, you're right, though I doubt there'll be any appreciable difference compared to last year's model. 5hp isn't much, even on paper.

Well Car and Driver labelled Mazda, the japanese version of BMW since mazdas tend to have excellent handling cars..

That has to be a misprint. A midsize car with a 3.0L V6 weighing 2900 pounds? Nope. Consider that my 2.5L V6 Ford Contour weighed 2750 pounds and it was classified as a compact. My 2001 2.3L I-4 Accord weighs about 3050 and Honda makes some of the lightest cars around. The 2900 pound figure is probably for the stripped 4 cylinder variant of the Mazda 6. The loaded V6 model will probably tip the scales at 3200-3300. The wagon may end up near 3400.

It has AWD too? That'd be kickass. Way too many FWD "sport" coupes out there these days. Now only if it had four-wheel steering too so it could take those curves at twice the speed ;)

Where'd you read that? The V6 will be available in a 5 speed automatic and manual.

The Mazda 6 with the V6 engine can be had with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Every time I get myself convinced that a 4-door Toyota Tacoma will be my next vehicle, something has to keep trying to change my focus. I REALLY want a pickup since I always find myself having to borrow my dad's truck for various tasks. But I've loved the looks of this car ever since I saw it and given my daily commute I'd quickly realize the savings in mileage. And just when I'd about ruled a passenger car out and got my mind firmly set on the Tacoma, now I have to see this base price :p

That price has GOT to be on the low side. If it's not, then that'll be a potentially great deal. Granted, I'd probably have to put almost $3,000 worth of options into it to get it where I want, but even then it would be a fantastic bargain compared to what a new 4-door Tacoma would cost with a V6 (and you can't find used since they're only a couple years old and nobody's selling them :| ) But comparing this price to the Tacoma I could theoretically buy a fully-equipped Mazda 6 and still have enough left over to go out and buy an old early 90s pickup which I could then list on insurance as my primary vehicle to save on insurance. :D Oh the wheels are turning in my head now.

One other thing I noticed when browsing through Mazda's web site a few minutes ago. On the site, they show both the 4-cylinder and the 6-cylinder as only needing regular unleaded fuel. If that's accurate then that's kind of refreshing since it seems like most 6-cylinders these days tend to require premium fuel. I think the Accord's V6 is the only major direct competitor that doesn't require premium fuel if I'm remembering correctly. I'm sure there's a couple others, but of the big boys (Accord, Camry and Altima) I think it's the only one.
