Preventing Dust Intake

I took a look at my case today and it is caked with dust. I really hesitated to even install my brand new shiny black audigy card. I've got a bunch of LED fans that are constantly sucking in tons of air. Well, for starters I'll be ditching this case very soon for my new build. I'd like to make sure I don't have this same problem.

Are there fans that come with some kind of dust catching screen or is something of the sort sold seperately? Even a DIY mod would be great if anyone had a URL.

Have positive pressure and have the intake fans with some sort of filter. That way all the air going in has to pass through the fans /w filters.

Fan filters help. Also, cases like ANTEC, most newer ones have a front filter as well. Fan filters + case filter is alot of help. You wont completely cut all dust out, but it reducdes it greatly and takes much longer to accumulate.

These are the fan filters I use. The black 80mm ones. ---->Mesh Fan Filters

I have a case that has a front intake fan filter. These work very well, but if you take the front panel off and look, you'll notice there are LOTS of little tiny holes. I recommend that you tape those up. That eliminates where dust can travle through and direct your airflow better. Also, a good cheap alternative to buying fan filters (if you don't already have any) is a pair of panty hose and rubber bands. You cut the panty hose into squares big enough to cover the fan and have some slack on the sides and secure it with some rubber bands. Very effective. 😉

Oh, yeah, govtchees-person. I ran out of those Frozen-CPU fan screens in the 80mm size. The inner filter ring (with the wire mesh) will just fit between the four anchoring fan screws of a 70mm fan, and you can add little spring-clips to the assembly to secure the screens to the fan. But -- no cigar -- ran out -- no more of those 80mm-jobs left.

I'm looking around for some nylon panty-hose as we speak . . . . .

I can remember posting this method years ago, and so many people were so impressed with how effective it is. I haven't purchased a fan filter in my life, as they can get expensive when you have larg fans (ie 120 mm or bigger).

If you're married or have a GF, you can probably get an endless supply of used panty hose for free. Women will throw them away as soon as they get a run, and that happens pretty easily.
