Pretty'ing up my case..

Hello All.

Got a Cooler Master Wave Master [black] with a window... Its a pretty sweet case, but I do wish I went with silver, owell.

The last of my computer hardware should be here early this week.. if not, svc needs to be hurt [3 weeks to ship em..]

Just wondering what exactly you can do to cover up extra cords/used cords, all that good stuff...anyone know of a good guide for a first time newbie?

I know everyones tastes are differant.. just don't know where to start

Try to hide all the wires you don't use, behind the motherboard tray. the wires that you do use wrap with some wire sleeve. Check out xoxide.com under the wire manegment section. Wire sleeving is the most popular. If you can afford it, get rounded floppy, ATA, and/or SATA cables. They take up alot less room and look alot better. Use zip ties when need to keep wires bundled up. Any sleeving kit you buy will come with directions, so theres not really a need for an online guide. Get some nice UV reactive sleeving and cables and buy a couple UV lights. Thats all I can think of right now. Hope this helps.

How difficult is it to sleeve and is there a need for a molex removal kit? In what event would you need to redo the molex connectors other than changing for different colors?

It's very easy to sleeve and you can use a small screw driver or get the molex pin removal tool.

Anyone have any clue what size sleeving is needed for fan wires?

I dont have everything put together [waiting on my da@$ mobo] So I'm not sure if they'll be an eye sore or not...

If they have the small 24AWG wire use 1/8" sleeving. If they use 4-wire 18AWG you can still use 1/8" if there is only a single molex at the end of the wires; if there is another molex connection in the center of the wire that the sleeving has to go over you will need 1/4".

Got myself a couple UV 12' lights [Should of gone with 6' though] [Is it normal for lights to only light up partially?]
And I sleeved my PSU with UV reactive green.

I used to think I had common sense.. but what am I missing? The lights give off very little light, and its definatly not doing anything to the sleeves.. man im a loser

connect them on another psu to test. they shouldn't be dim.

Now tried on 3 differant PSU's. Neither of them light up past 1/2 way

I am using dual 12" UV lights from SVC.com.
They are only dim if there are no UV reactive components in the system.

I have 2 12' that total maybe 9' lol.

And they DEFINATLY do NOT light up my UV reactive sleeves.. im so confused.. what else can go wrong with this computer

Did you sleeve your light's?
Reason I ask is because, when I sleeved my stuff, I accidentally put on one connector backwards.
I plugged my lights in and they barely lit. You said you plugged them into other power supplies so you power supply shouldn't be the issue.

Really I think you got a defective light kit. (it happens)
If you think maybe your sleeves aren't UV reactive, go to Wal-Mart and buy a blacklight. Turn it on near your UV stuff, they will glow if they are truly reactive.

Check them and make sure the yellow and red wires are inserted in the connectors correctly.

Not sure if the respective grounds matter, but when I sleeve one I just pair them so the ground stays in the same place as it was.

Also, something i had alot of trouble figuring out.. maybe I'm just slow


Sleeving things like fans/the main PSU cord, anything that the molex wont remove.. how does one manage to get the sleeve overtop?

Also.. how small of heatshrink did you use? I couldnt seem to get mine small enough.

For fans I use 1/8th" sleeve. (Use a jeweler's screwdriver to remove the connector)
The ATX connector is a whole nother story.
I don't try to get the sleeving over the connector, I remove it (after marking the wires 1-20)
1/2" on the atx connector.
1/4" for everything else except I keep a little 3/8" for the Xeon connector (6-pin)

This guide shows the method I use to remove the ATX and AUX connectors. (This can be kinda difficult) I mark them with masking tape 1-20 clockwise around the connector starting top left.
The only other thing I do differently is when I remove the molex connectors, I remove say yellow and the adjacent black, tape the pins, then remove red and the remaining bleck and tape that pair. Then I insert them into the sleeving.

if you mean the ATX connector,you can order a special tool online or do it the hardway.i used 2 needles and pliers to push the pins out(dont forget to label wires,1-20).Fans are easier once again a needle or a tiny screwdriver will do the trick.sleeves are expandable,so getting over something that is slightly bigger in diameter is no problem (just imagine a snake devouring something hideous)..

I bought one of those ATX removal tools....broke it first try. If you get one don't force it.....

Well, on my personal case I used the smallest blue I could get.... 3/8" It didn't shrink "tight", but it is passable.
If black will do, Radio Shack has a multi-pack of heatshrink they sell for about 5 bucks or so. It even has tiny heatshrink.

Alright, in that kit i got it only had 2 sizes, and it wouldnt shrink enough .. if the cord is tilted, it sometimes slides down.. bleh
