Pretty serious 'complications' with my college application

About a month ago for some personal reasons I decided I wasn't going to go back to school out of province. My mom has been in the hospital for the past 3 months and I didn't feel it was a good move to leave while she was in her condition, and I didn't like where I was going to school very much anyways, so I wasn't going to cry about it.

I dropped off an application at my local jr. college last month and paid my application fee(august 25th to be precise), and submitted all of my paperwork by september 5th (I had to wait for my university to mail me my offical transcript)..

From here I thought it would be smooth sailings, unfortunately it's proved to be anything but and I am not entirely sure what to do.

September 7th

On September the 7th I logged into my online account at the school to see whether my application had been processed yet. To my dismay, it hadn't, and it even said that my application was incomplete. This left me quite concerned, I sent off a few emails, fielded a few phone calls, and found out what the situation was.

In the period of 12 days the school had not yet processed my payment! Despite the fact that the registrar's office and the cashier's office are right next to eachother. I'm pretty irritated because school started that day and I wanted to get in ASAP. I was assured the problem would be rectified by monday/tuesday of the next week.

September 11th

Tuesday rolls around, no progress. I call them, ask them what the hell is going on, they say that they can't find ANY of the paperwork for my payment. No interac reciept, no computer trail no nothing. I rummage around my filing cabinet and find my reciept and fax a copy. I get a phone call back saying a registrar needs to meet with me regarding my application (I was on academic probation at my old school).

I say sure, get me in as soon as possible. As soon as possible will be friday. Great 6 days of class missed.

September 14th

I meet with the registrar and I explain to her why I was academic probation (I've had some pretty serious health/family problems recently), she wants it in writing so she can give it to the Sr. Registrar to approve my admission. Of course she ironically mentions to me time is of the essence. No kidding, I've done everything as quick as I can, and you guys are dogging it.

I go to work, sent of the email that I transcribed. I don't receive an email back even though she said she would get back to me by the end of the day.

September 17th

Still no reply to the email I sent her, so I sent the registrar a follow up email, and left a message on her voicemail confirming that she had the email, if not to give me a call back. It's 10 days into school, and I'm getting behind and I feel like I'm getting screwed.

I seriously don't know what to do, it's 12:00 almost and It's the 7th day of class.

I want to go up and complain because I've been very prompt in getting all of my paperwork in but it seems the school is fumbling the ball and the only person suffering here is me. I don't even know who to complain to.

Does anyone have any advice?

Edit: I just sent this email to one of the registrars I've had dealings with

Hi Tara,

I'm getting extremely extremely agitated about my situation at Cap.

After this email I got from you I was called about needing to come for a meeting on Friday, which put me even further behind (even though I wanted to get the next available appointment).

This meeting was about my situation at Queen's and Cheryl Helm required some documentation about the nature of my circumstances at Queen's, she said that if she got it on Friday she would have a response for me by the end of the day.

I was called into work, and sent the email as soon as I got home. I have since recieved absolutely no communication from her. I sent her a confirmation email yesterday to make sure she got my documentation, and even fielded a phone call to her that she did not pick up (I did leave a voicemail).

I am not really trying to complain here, but between the delay associated with the lack of communication between the registrar's office and the cashier's office causing a 6 day delay, the 4 day delay for getting an appointment with the registrar, and the further lack of communication from Cheryl Helm is really really leaving me on edge as class is getting on.

I've done my best to get the documentation in to everyone as soon as physically possible, but to no avail.

I hope you can shed some light in my situation as I, and my parents are growing increasingly nervous about the nature of my situation.

Sincerely,

Ryan Sengara

I'm not sure what you can do about your problem, except maybe to go there in person again so they have to give you some sort of response.

But you should start going to the classes so you don't fall behind. If you're not supposed to go to classes before your registered, maybe you could explain your situation to the instructor and they'd let you sit in on the class so you can start catching up.

can you wait until next semester? not the ideal situation, but if you're going to end up missing a good bit, you might as well just wait now.

I would sit in the registrar's office from the time she gets there until she leaves until your issue is rectified.

They are making it your problem by not handling it in a timely manner so skip the phone calls, emails, etc and get to the source directly.

I can't afford to do wait, especially if I want to complete my transfer credits in time.

My plan was to only take 2-3 courses this semester anyways, and take two courses during the summer. Since I work all year around I don't have to work full time during the summer.

If I don't get a phone call/email by 1:00 I am going to go to the registrar's office and SIT.

1) Go to class, even if you aren't officially in it yet.

2) Raise havok. That always gets things done at a university/college. I had to do it on occasion. A few well placed letters to the college dean / university president / university regents got me in the class I needed to be in instantly.

3) Contact the professors for those classes, in person, and tell them of your situation. They will almost all be glad to catch you back up with anything you missed.
