tv works and looks great for me. Awesome picture quality. It takes quite a bit of time to receive after you order it, but if you can wait, then its definately worth it IMO. I think everyone's shipment went through CA?

how long did it actually take luke ?
i about crapped myself when i saw the price with free shipping.

and i see why they give free shipping if they make you wait forever.

Took about 12 to 14 days to get it. The LCD is amazing at playing movies and hooked up to my computer with either vga and dvi are awesome. The analog cable is poor.

Overall this was a great buy, even though shipping sucked.

I agree its an amazing deal for sure but. The real question is do you wanna risk buying it and never getting it?. I pray to god mine comes in on the 3rd like fed ex tracking says, seeing that I ordered the damn thing back on the 16th of Dec. Yes it looks also like everyones is going through CA which makes me thing one, either they are just total freaking idiots or two the tv is actually coming from CA not TX. At the way the shipping has been going for ppl Im ganna go with one though lol.

My Sova lcd tv just stopped working 10 mins ago. I got my HTPC system put together yesterday night, and I was watching my 1st movie on it today, and all of a sudden (20 mins into the movie) the screen went black, and when I walked up to the lcd I could smell something fried (same smell as when a computer PSU dies)... The power button still works (green/red status light), but I don't get any picture on the display.

I have used the lcd for maybe a total of 10 hours since I got it (12/18). I will admit the picture quality was great, but it wasn't quite worth the $50/hour.

The Fedex shipping label shows it had cost Buy.com $25 to ship it from CA to me (IA) via Fedex Ground, so hopefully it won't cost much more for me to return/exchange ship it back to them using my Fedex account.

Wow, that's not good! Sorry to hear about your bad luck...

Did you get the extended warranty for yours from buy.com?

I'm almost afraid to use mine now... I've put many hours on it so far though, played through gears war, many rounds of fight night round 3; plus hours of watching crappy cable tv... I have noticed that the TV get's quite hot, and smells when you get close to the back/top of it; specifically the top right of it.

Good luck on your return...

Again, I swear to god if this tv craps out on me someone is ganna die at Buy.com. This is for the guy that had the picture go out on him. How are you sedning it back, did you get the warrenty and also if I didnt pick up the warrenty and I phucked if it does the same thing on me? Anyway let me know.

There was warrenty?? I knw this tv had a special return policy but when I can't even get contact with the manufacturer, I go call buy.com. Were trying to settle this right now, I doubt bbb will do anything

Here is the buy.com express warranty, which was optional...

Sova 32" LCD HD-Ready TV - 1200:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio, 16:9, RGB/DVI, S-video QTY: 1

12 month Express Repair Plan ESC $64.99
24 month Express Repair Plan ESC $84.99
No Thanks

You could probably sue Buy.com or the manufacturer in small claims court and win easily. You were sent a defective product, and they need to either exchange you a working unit, or refund your money.

I will call or email nuvision about the tv on Tuesday and see what they can do for me. I'm going to try and get them to pay for the shipping (UPS/Fedex have the option of recipient paying shipping costs), and send it via Fedex Ground (usually the cheapest between USPS/UPS/Fedex), should only cost ~$25'ish to ship. What really pisses me off is that I ordered this back on the 2nd, didn't receive it until the 18th, and got less than 10 hours of use out of it before it died. If it had died right after I had gotten it, at least I could have tried taking it back to the Fedex center and maybe denied the package, have it sent back to Buy.com or something.

I am really hoping that the two tvs that pooped out were just some crazy anomaly. If mine does and buy.com wont take it back well lets just say I have access to some 16 lawyers that could help me out.

Well the tv is in and I'm actually happy with it thus far!!!! I wanna know what everyone else has their settings on though. Seemed like I neeed to turn the sharpness up alot and right now I have it set on 1080i for my xbox 360 and love it.

Long time Hot Deals reader, this thread (particularly the issues with Buy.com customer support) promted a reply.

Not a rant, but buy.com customer support is incredibly difficult to deal with IF they choose to be. I purchase from buy.com on a rather regular basis, which in turn has resulted in a few calls to customer support. The 'easy' to handle issues were taken care of quickly, and without issue.

That said, I had ordered a product from them some time back that showed a certain MFG Item # on their site, including the product description that matched the MFG Item description for that item number on the MFG website. However, after rec'ing the item, it was NOT the Item # quoted on buy.com, but a slightly different one, that did not included some items that would have come with the listed Item #. (The whole reason for ordering)

I went back and forth with buy.com for weeks on this topic. First through their online support and email, then to calls. They updated their webpage for the item to reflect the new item number, but refused to take the item back as it did not meet their RMA criteria (showing an incredible lack of flexible thinking...YOU SHIPPED THE INCORRECT PRODUCT - YOU LISTED THE INCORRECT PRODUCT...now take it back). At the end of the day I went back to my credit card company, provided copies of all of my emails, screen captures of the orginal buy.com web page, links to the MFG Item descrtions, picture of what I actually rec'd instead, as we'll as summarized transcripts of my fruitless phone converstations (with an endless parade of folks who spoke with an Indian accent with a last name of 'Smith'...).

The credit card company only wanted proof that I had tried to return the item, and after showing them that buy.com would NOT PROVIDE AN ADDRESS TO RMA THE ITEM TO (as it did not meet their criteria, so they would not give me the RMA address), my CC company reversed the charges, credited my account and I got to keep the item as buy.com refused to take it back. (Again, I would have happily sent it back, I tried, but they refused to take it). So, the final outcome was I got my money back, I sold the unwanted item on ebay, and got the item I wanted from someone else, basically for free. Thanks, Chase.

Cliffnotes: Buy.com refuses to take back an incorrectly shipped item, CC company reverses charges, I sell item on ebay and get the correct item basically for free. This is what happens when your CS staff will only work from a rigid script.

Glad to hear you got it and like it, mines still going strong... About the component inputs, you have them in component 2, correct?

With my 360 I also noticed a slight fuzziness especially at 720p, so what I did was grab a VGA connector. I got one of the knock off ones off ebay for like $11 shipped and the picture is absolutley amazing, much much sharper... Another plus to this connection is it will upconvert and DVD's you play so there is a much noticable difference in watching DVD's as well...

screw off!!!! Thanks to everyone else that responded to my post and were constructive unlike this ass clown was. Yeah I have it hooked up via the component 2 and am running it with 1080i. I dont know if I will do the vga adapter or not because i like 1080i and there really is no diff with 720p. Though I do like the fact that it can upscale the dvd's so atleast that can look better. I was just looking at some of those ebay ones and the one I found said it will play games in 720p and dvds get scaled to 480p. So what the hell are dvds being played at with the components in? 480i because the picture sucks ass. Also ebay looks like the for sure way to go with the vga because the xbox 360 brand at best buy cost 39.99 plus tax.

Hmm, well what are your guys settings at. I have been trying to contact buy.com about getting it returned because the manufacturer is no help at all.

Well I was just told that the vga cable does not upconvert the dvds so I dont know, either my buddy is wrong and he is a tech at bestbuy or the ppl on here that claim it upconverts are wrong and it really is not a better picture, it the placebo effect when you plug the vga in over the component. Anyway let me know how you guys know it upconverts till then Im not ganna waste money on a vga cable.

Google is your friend!

High-def: With an Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable connected to a high-definition or HD-ready television or monitor, you can view your DVD movies in 480p and your HD-DVD movies in 480p, 720p, or 1080i. With an Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable, you can view both DVD and HD-DVD movies in any supported resolution up to 1080p. (To achieve these resolutions, your TV must be capable of displaying them, and you must set the appropriate resolution in your Xbox 360 console settings.)
