The Samsung DLP's have arguably the best picture of *any* TV. DLP technology kicks ass, all the good parts of rear projection TV with none of the bad.
The new 46" (HLN467w) came out a few months ago and has almost identical outside dimensions as the 43", maybe that's why the 43 inchers are starting to drop.

well not exactly DLP's can't quite reproduce the black levels that a CRT can produce, the contrast is slightly less but the image is much sharper, and as long as you can't see the rainbow effect its great. I haven't seen the rainbow effect myself but then again I've only seen a couple DLP tv's in the store and didn't look to closely, I can't wait for good single chip LCOS TV's to come out those are even better then DLP and have resolutions up to 1920x1080p which would look absolutely amazing, I saw them at SID conference 1 1/2 years ago and was blown away by the picture quality.
Generally I'm all for hot deals but-

I really want one of these but DLP is pretty new technology and it will undoubtably drop to the $2000 range probably within a year. What is nice about these is that their native resolution is 720p so most hd Xbox games (which is the only HD feed I will probably be getting since I watch like 0 DVDs) which are almost all 720p will looook just great on a pixel per pixel basis.
add to cart and its 3299$ don't know what B&M's are selling it for but this is cheapest I saw online based on a quick search.
I think there are a bunch of places to get this model. Amazon is definitely one of the more reliable though.

I think this one is worth going into your local store to talk the price down. 3299.94 is good if you don't want to deal with salespeople, but my dad got the 50" model of this TV for that price... and he had two different salespeople at two different stores (Circuit City and Sound Advice, no I don't have a receipt scan) offer him the 50" at that price.
Again, not trying to threadcrap, this is a great no-haggle price for an AMAZING TV (it's ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, you really have to see it to believe it), but if you're willing to haggle you can probably get a better price.
Positives on the 50" (they probably apply to the 43 as well):
--DVI plug and VGA plug = hot gamin' lovin'
--Incredible picture in HD mode / VGA mode
--No screen burn and a much longer lifetime than plasma
--Small footprint, very light (80 pounds -- compare to my 36" Sony at 226 pounds)
--Native resolution is 1280x720, better than comparably priced plasmas (typically like 850x480 or so)
Negatives:
--Does a bad job of stretching 4:3 to 16:9, and tends to forget this setting when you change inputs
--Weird requirements on component inputs make it tough to use ... there is one and only one set of component inputs that will accept 480i signals (like the dashboard on the xbox or the setup screen on any dvd player) and that input will only run 480i and 480p. There is no single input that will accept both 480i and (720p or 1080i)
--Has a bulb. A long-life bulb, but it will eventually have to be replaced after probably 3-5 years. And then it'll run you another $300-400.
--Can have dead pixels. My dad's has one, but thankfully it's hardly noticeable. The display model at Sound Advice had over 30, and the sales guy there said they're not considered defective until they have over 20... so don't have it shipped from a long distance and make sure you have a good return policy.
Please don't think that I'm not recommending the hell out of this TV, even though it might sound like I don't like it. There is no TV that compares to this one. It looks as good as plasma or better at 1/2 the cost. But before you buy from Amazon, give some thought to talking to a real person.

You guys might be happier with a DLP projector like the Infocus X1 for $999. Add another $100 for a screen and some cables and you have an awesome big picture. I use a 70" across screen, so my "TV" is a whopping 87" diagonal. This is great for DVD and HDTV. Even plain standard TV looks pretty good at this mamoth size. Just keep in mind this is a projector, so a dim or dark room is best. This is why I use my projector in conjunction with my 30" Toshiba TV, which I use for casual daytime viewing. Even if you went out and bought this projector and a new 32" HDTV for $1000, you will still be saving $1200 over the samsung this thread is about. And if your current TV is OK, it only cost you around $1100. Everyone who sees my projector in action is amazed at how sharp and bright the picture is. Plus it is totally portable, weighing only 6 lbs. Negatives are it doesn't have a TV tuner, instead it uses output from your VCR or cable/satellite box. You will also need to route your sound to your stereo, since it only includes a small speaker. Since most people already have these things in their entertainment center, it is no big deal.
TI claims absolutely 0 dead pixels on their DMD devices. For a lot of the DLP front projectors, even 1 dead pixel means a replacement. I'm surprised this Samsung is not the same way. That's too bad.
It's actually cheaper at Good Guys than Amazon.

The new 61 inch model HLN617W is out and goes between $4500 and $5000 . I'm buying that one as soon as the price drops .
I hate to say it, but the prices on the Samsung DLP's is not going to drop anytime soon. These things are flying off the shelves and often have waiting lists. I don't think that Samsung is going to drop the price until the supply exceed the demand.
I don't think there is a whole lot of haggle room with local sales guys either b/c these aren't sitting around collecting dust. I just talked to a local store and they had 20 sets come in today and all those are already allocated and there are still 15 people on the list waiting for the next shipment.

Is this a hot deal? I thought 3,300$ was a normal price for this TV. Oh wells, a month ago AVSforum.com had posted a bunch of sears receipts and people were able to get the new Panasonic LCD 50" tv for 1900-2200$ at Sears/CC/BB. Now that was a steal.
