You guys will probably be interested in the fact that today at about 3:00 pm EST I ordered a 20 hr unit from the Washington center for $229.00. I'm not sure how many they have left, but try there.

The San Francisco center still had 6 30 hour units at about 3:00 EST at the sale price of $319.00.

Good luck and thanks for this awesome deal!

the deal for the 1000s at the SF store is only thru Manager approval. Thus you need to have Laura at the Colorado store make the call for you to setup the deal at $229...if they have any left...

They charge tax no matter what state you are in, since they have representation in most states.

does this thing work with Direct TV? I mean can you plug in your satellite connection so that it can change channels for you? How does this thing work with digital cable and such? thanks

The Showstopper can control digital cable/sat receivers one of two ways.

1) Some receivers have a serial port, so you can connect the Showstopper to them via the included serial cable.

2) Other things (like standard cable boxes) can be controlled via an IR emitting dongle (also included). The dongle basically acts like a universal remote, controlling your box just as you would with a conventional remote control.

Hope this helps.

Phew, thanks JuniorJam. I just squeaked in on the deal at the Washington service center and nabbed what the CSR (Elizabeth, very nice) said was their last one for now, a PVHS2000 refurb unit for $279 + tax and shipping. I would have preferred the 1000 for $229 since I'm going to upgrade the hard disk anyway, but they didn't have any of those left.

My 20-hour ReplayTV from buy.com just arrived yesterday and it impressed me so much that I had to have another one. My only nagging fear is that the service will somehow change in the near future. I base that on the fact that since upgrading the software last night to Rev. 3.0, there's this nag screen that keeps popping up telling me I need to register my unit.

I think this has been mentioned, but for those of you wondering why your unit appears unopened and new, it's b/c they are new. Distributers returned them for whatever reason, but they can not be re-sold as new, therefor they are "refurbished".

There are more Showstoppers at a Panasonic service center in Hawaii.
808-488-1996 is their phone number.

They told me the same thing about PV-HS2000 in Washington- that I am getting the last one :) I guess that cuts down on questions and makes you jump on faster.
Anyway about controlling the cable box- my concern was if it controls digital cable box, which uses three numbers to switch channels- from the manual on the Panasonic site it suggests that it does, cool, this one is very well thought through.

alyosha, yeah you're probably right! I'm such a sucker... but what they don't realize is that I would have bought TWO of them if they hadn't said it was the last one.

Anyway, re: the channel switching thing, you can tweak the number of digits that the IR Blaster sends to the cable or satellite box. By default, my Replay TV unit was only sending single digits on channels 2-9, which meant like an 8-10 second delay before the channel would switch over because my Scientific Atlanta box was expecting a 2nd digit. After finding the tweak at www.replaytvfaq.com, I tried it and it works like a charm. I changed my "minimum digits" from 1 (the default) to 2, and everything is cool. In your case, you could just as easily bump it up to 3.

anyone want to sell their extra showstopper 20hr for cost plus shipping? Just interested. I can't find any for under $349.99 and most are $459.99 or higher.
I know this is flamebait, but worth a try as I've been calling all the west coast shops everyday for about a week.

I just got mine in from Colorado. I ordered it when this thread started. Laura called me this Monday and said they had arrived and were shipping it out. Looks new and un-opened.

I'd also be interested in one of the 20 hour Showstoppers if anyone has an extra from this deal. I'll either need a copy of the receipt for the rebate, or you to send in the rebate and knock a hundred off for me. Thanks!

Just to mention this 100 off rebate is not a sure thing, but it is still a good price for a Showstopper. At this price it is cheaper to get another unit instead of buying another hardrive to add.

After a long-distance call from CT to Hawaii, I found that they are selling the 1000's for $299, NOT $229 - that price is "only at the mainland west coast service centers". I wish someone had mentioned that before I called. Oh well.

2nd day air UPS shipping from Hawaii to Connecticut was going to be $29.95, in case anyone is interested.
