This is from the local Staples ad but I believe this is nationwide. Staples President's Day Sale has Maxtor 40GB ATA133 7200RPM drives on sale for $50 after rebate. That is a great deal and I will be picking up one to replace the drive I stole from my RAID 0 array to fix my wife's computer with.

LINKAGE

Offer valid 2/16/03 -> 2/17/03 so get it while it's hot.

better yet, get that hard drive + that CDRW right next to it, apply the $30 off $150 coupon and submit the rebates. it would be:

$90 hard drive
+$70 scanner
-----------------
$160 subtotal
-$30 coupon
-$40 hard drive rebate
-$50 cdrw rebate
------------------
$40 for both!

I'm not sure if i'm missing anything but... Buy a Scanner and submit a rebate for CDRW????

And any Hot Harddrive deals should be 1GB Less than or Equal to $1.

Anything other than that, is warm at it's best.

40GB of hard drive for $50 is damn hot to me. I remember buying drives in the MB category in the $several hundred dollar range.

Can you provide linkage please? Wife gave the go ahead to purchase but if I can scrimp and save another $20 she'll be all the happier. :)

I bought a 60gb for $50 after coupon/rebate 2 weeks ago.
You have to combine this w/ something else to make it hot....

Another way to get the drive for $30 is to buy the drive with the free modem and use the $20 off coupon.

Good deal IMO... I like bigger drives but it's not always good to have all your eggs in one basket, plus the $/GB is right.

Are these drives 2M or 8M cache? Also the box in the pic says 3 yr warranty is this what people are getting or is it the newer box with 1 yr warranty?

Sometimes Fry's posts some great deals on bare drives. I got a 80gb seagate for 69.99 and no rebates. check those at frys from time to time. I hate the rebate ones tho..just takes forever to get your money back.

Well, since I bought the same drive for $15 after 2x $30 from Staples a couple months back, it takes a bit more for it to be hot, let alone "damn hot". Then again, that was something of a mistake on the retailers part. :) Like someone else mentioned, you see prices less than $1 per meg pretty regularly in sales these days.

Hmm, you sure? I thought I remember that deal was from Staples. :) Oh well. So many deals, I just can't remember where they came from.

I combined with the 52x CDRW and $30 coupon to get them both for $40 + tax on $130 (AR). Pretty good deal :)

I got one of them today and it's a 3 year warranty and it's a Diamond Max Plus 8 the thin drive. I am hoping the other one at my other address is the same drive.
