Purchase model ST0154000U at Bestbuy.com for $119.99

Use Blue to PM with Page Computer for 101.99

Send in for Bestbuy $20 MIR (find link in green when you view the product)

Send in for $25 Bestbuy Gift Card (also under the green link).

Note that there is a $30 rebate that is expired.

$120 - 18.00 - 20 = $82 plus tax AND get a $25 BB Gift card

Excellent deal.

However, I like the 40GB Maxtor D740X at Newegg for $83 plus $7 S&H.

The Maxtor D740X was at the top of StorageReview.com's 7200 rpm IDE leaderboard until recently displaced by the Western Digital WD1000 SE.

As far as I know, Newegg's price is super for a super hard drive.

PhylloDo, great work on this post. Hot deal for a great HD. The net price of $57 plus tax is just too hot to stay away. I'll have to pick up one for this price even though I don't need it. Just ordered a 60 gb @ dell for under a hunded shipped.

Happy New Year to All.

gbrux, great post as well for those who don't want to deal with hassle of sending in (2) rebates and a Amex pricematch. Newegg is a great vendor who usually ships rather quick.:)

Great find. Beats the deal I got at OD last month:

$129.99
-30.00 coupon
-30.00 rebate

$77.79 shipped including tax.

I wonder if OD would retroactively pricematch to Page Computer, or even to BB current price (would save me about $10)

Since I ordered online, I think I'll give them a call.:)

great deals, but everyone should note that these drives in the original post are udma/ata 66. If you are attempting to price match, do not just go by the size and Maxtor brand name. Unless the retailer is not computer savvy, the model numbers will not match. Get a udma 100 drive anyhow!!!:)

All of the D740X drives at Newegg are udma/ata 100 or even 133. Better drives (as long as you do not have older udma/ata 66 mobo!).

Just to set the record straight after the last post for those who don't know, AFAIK Maxtor D740X = ATA133. I spend way too much time reading about computer hardware on the web and I have never stumbled across anything that refuted the aforementioned theory. I would of course welcome any corrections or rebuttals.

Here's a link to the official Maxtor quick specs.

I saw the maxtor 40gb at best buy B&M yesterday. The shelf tag said ATA66, but the printed label on the maxtor box itself said ATA100

Received the 740Dx from Newegg yesterday and I am in the process building the new KR7a / XP1600 as i write this. Newegg is a great vendor. Placed the order on the 27th (late in the afternoon) and the order shipped on the 27 and 28 and arrived on the 31st using 2 day fedex. (i don't think that fedex counts the weekend).

What am I missing here?

The BB rebate site states (send in original UPC from box). This is the same statement for both the
20.00 rebate and the 25.00 GC rebate. How then can one get both if each of them requires the
original barcode/UPC?

I can see it for 119.99 less the 20.00 but not 119.99 less 20 and a furhter 25.00 GC. Not such a
hot deal if only one rebate applies.

Comments anyone?

Wording of the BB B&M sale flyer (at www.bestbuy.com) strongly suggests that you'll get both the $20 MIR and $25 GC. I'll see what the store says when I go to pick it up tonight ...

Did anyone get an answer to this?

The flyer makes it look like you'll get both, and the website says "Before $20.00 $25 Best Buy Gift ...mail-in rebate(s)."

But if both require the original UPC...

Does the box have 2 UPCs?

If not, I'm going to mail in for the $20 with the original, and a copy for the GC, and if they deny it, go to a BB B&M and scream until they give me a GC.

EDIT: Scratch that, I'm going to skip this deal - Fry's has the 60G Maxtor UDMA/100 drive for $109 this weekend - even after factoring in the PM, BB rebate and GC, the price difference between the 2 is a few dollars after factoring in the size differences.

so this ata100 drive will work (though will be underperforming) in an old ata33 controller on the motherboard?
