I got a pretty decent E6600 from MicroCenter's sale a few weeks back. Here are the results:

1.21V set in bios (1.16V actual)
E6600@3.0GHz

I didn't get screenshots unfortunately, but it was also Orthos stable at the following settings:

3.2Ghz 1.25V bios (1.2V actual)

3.6GHz 1.41V bios (1.36V actual)

Not the best chip I've seen but it clocks a lot better than a week 25 or 26 I got a while back. Even better than my week 24 E6400 which does 3.04GHz@stock volts, 3.2GHz@1.32V bios (1.28V actual), and 3.52GHz@1.46V bios (not sure about actual).

that's a pretty good overclock. 3.6 @ 1.4 is awesome... i mean not as awesome as 3.6 @ default but still pretty darn good.

i'd keep it! :)

Ya, this MSI would be great if the bios engineers could figure out the boot hang problem. It's Orthos stable at 440MHz with no mods.

Thanks. I'm hoping one of the new 680i boards or R600 will solve the vdroop problems that these 975x boards seem to have. Should run great at 1.36-1.38V (@3.6GHz) with solid voltage.

I have been asking this all over...no one seems to mention it...is there a vdroop on the 680i

For us who never as lucky as Lopri, Elfear etc....beware of chasing a cpu stepping I did that and what frustration..some the L629Bs look real nice at low vcore(but heard increased temps)..some of the later chips are running cooler...not sure how this has to do with the concave IHS

yeah. i understand chasing cpu's! that's why i just went ahead and bought an ES chip since they all seem to clock pretty well.

From what I understand the non-Intel chipset boards don't have the problem with vdroop. I'm fairly certain one of the owners of the new EVGA 680i boards said that.

The 29B week/stepping seem to be doing well across the board. I ordered an E6600 for my boss about the same time as I did mine and it's also a 29B. Clocks just about the same as the one I'm using. I have heard the week 28B and possibly 30A/B chips are clocking about the same only with lower temps.

OK so I am confused. Is there really much dif between various week/steppings for say a e6600 for oc ability? In other words if my local retailer has one and I see 29A or 29B or whatever should I try to get the newest or were there particular older ones that were better. I am currently waiting on a new shipment from a local store and he insists it will be the newest stepping. Is that a good thing or not?

The newer weeks seem to be overclcoking better than the older weeks in general (not counting the early ES processors). The "B" stepping also seems to be doing better than the "A".

The variance in week can make a huge impact in overclocking ability. I bought a week 25 or 26 a month back and it wasn't that stable at 3.2Ghz with 1.35-1.4V (can't remember the exact amount). The big problem was temps as I was hitting 65C at ~1.4V.

But I don't think any are available in the US...

Long thread, but some users have B steps...

Both my B steppings were from Microcenter and I know guys have been getting some B steppings from Newegg.
