I don't see that the one listed at American Computech comes with a pc card. If thats true, $174 for just the gateway is a rip off.

Ozone

Gateway has it for $199 w/ free shipping. They also have a $30 off $249 coupon. Just have to add something for $50

Looks like the price is coming down everywhere.

Might be a good idea to wait another week or so.

This combined with a coupong will make it very hot.

EDIT- now out of stock

so if the card is included in the other companies' retail boxed access point...then, it should be...rite?

Wrong. The gateway can be purchased by itself or in combination with different client products -- the PC Card, the USB adapter, with both or sometimes you can find it with the PC card + PCI adapter. It's up to you to verify that you are comparing apples with apples. You can see the actual manufacturer product codes for the bundles at TechDepot.

there are two official flavors on the RG's there is the RG with nothing and then there is the KIT this has a sticker on the box that says KIT this means that it includes one card! Some resellers will pull the cards and sell them seperate on include a bronze card (slower and has no incription, has been discontinued but many are still out there as no one wants them) or make their own bundle. But officially there is only two forms of the RG!

Does anybody have any problems connecting DLink hardware with Orinoco stuff?

I specifically can't get a Dlink DWL-650 to connect to my Orinoco RG-1100 w/ 128bit WEP.

Most likely you have the older DWL-650 as these make up the bulk of the DWL-650 product sold in the past coupole of years. D-Link just recently announced 128-bit encryption for the DWL-650. Older DWL-650s can be upgraded to 128-bit encryption via a firmware update. If your card is not working with 128-bit encryption then upgrade the firmware.

If anyone is still considerng this deal you can now do better by buying it from the Gateway Accessory store here and then using a $50 off coupon that you may be able to find elsewhere. Should be $164.95 plus shipping.

I did this. 214.95 goes to 186 after tax/shipping/coupon, so a pretty hot deal right there. The site still says in stock, we'll see though....

Bought it with Amex Blue, so I will try the nxgen pricematch back down to 194.95 afterward, for a possible 166 shipped!

Just a note, these are the same products sold under the dell brand. I used to work in the dell mobile division and they just relable the orinoco stuff, so in my experience its a quality product.

if the Dell card is anything like the Sony, you can NOT use the Orinoco firmware updates, so not advised. Orinco is really good about firmware updates... Sony is NOT.

i guess i'm a bit late, but i'm interested in this deal...

anyone care to "hint" me at where i can find the coupon for gateway/necx or nxgen?
