Pretty darn hot... Pioneer 50-pack CDR's free AR at Sears

Sears B&M has a 50-pack of Pioneer recordable CD's that are free after mail in rebate. Sale price in effect Sunday, May 19 - Saturday, May 25. From a picture in the sales flyer, the CD's appear to be 650MB / 12x. Regular price is $19.99, but there is $5 savings and a $14.99 mail-in rebate. Limit 4 per customer, rebate offer good thru May 25.

Alright. Here's some nice cold water to throw on the deal.

I show up at Sears today, and the salesdroid says, "are you looking for the CD-Rs free after rebate?" Me: "yes" Droid: "there was an error in the circular; the free CD-Rs are the Krapermedias, even tho the picture shows Pioneers." Me: "see you later."

I bought some of those Krapermedias when OM had them on sale. I burned about 25 VCD pixellators (got my Apex player all fried in the brain ... movies unwatchable ... had to reburn onto better media), and have sentenced the Krapermedias to the back of the CD-R closet, only to be used when I need a "throwaway" CDR. I know some of you have had luck with them, but I didn't. Frankly I was shocked that the droid was aware of the mistake at 1130AM. They don't usually catch on until ... Tuesday or so. The prospect of another Walled Lake rebate on substandard CDRs made me say, "not worth the risk."

My thinking is that I might return later in the week after they've sold out of the Krapermedias, and perhaps they'll substitute the Pioneers. Or I could cause a scene and have them substitute what's in the ad. We'll see how I feel. I bought two of the Pioneers last year at the Sears sale, and they seemed to be pretty solid media, and I was happy with them.

Cheers,
Cran

khypermedias work well for me, and work well in my apex dvd player so i bought two packs.

btw these are 700MB 80min cds, not the 650s originally in the ad.

Well the Sears in Cerritos, CA (SoCal) didn't have the Pioneers of course even though their inventory said 17 in stock. They wouldn't do a substiture for the Maxells or even the Memorex. They would either sell the 12x Maxells for $15 of offer a raincheck on the Pioneers which of course will be out of rebate period when they get them in stock. Boo! 🙁

More wasted gas....

i have no problem with kypermedia.. ive burned tons of stuff on them.. from vcd, svcd, and *backups*.. all at max speed 32x with my btc burner.. and they play fine on my apex.. and they read good on everything.. ps2, dreamcast.. etc..
maybe its ur burner?

heh cranston its probably your burner. i've always bought decent burners, they could burn on any media, even the cheapest garbage burned successfully.

hope theres still some left today.😛

"Well the Sears in Cerritos, CA (SoCal) didn't have the Pioneers of course even though their inventory said 17 in stock. They wouldn't do a substiture for the Maxells or even the Memorex."

sir, do you mean that they looked in the computer and couldn't find them in the store? sounds fishy to me...

In Dayton Ohio ..

I got a raincheck..
called customer service national, they came thru at my local store with some KHYPErs with rbates.
upon reflection decided they werent worth it since i have had a bad experience with those.
CSR finally offered Maxells at their expense. (thanks)

Sears retains my high opinion of their customer loyalty and excellent products.
they heard me when I explained the importance of quality media.

I have always been a Craftsman tool-man too. Got a box full of them.

Kudos to SEARS. I hope you guys are around for a long time.

I got 4 packs of the Khypermedia discs free on the spot. I took the ad in to my local Sears and when the sales clerk said they were out of stock, I pointed out the Sears Promise on the bottom of page 38 that says if the advertised item is out of stock, you may choose another similar item of equal or better quality or receive a raincheck (that was a paraphrase, but accurate). Since the Pioneers had a mail in rebate and the flyer was a mistake (Pioneers don't have a rebate and they don't have them in stock anyway) he finally just said "I'm going to mark these (Khypermedias) down for you." I said, "To what?" He said, "Free..." Got 4 packs (the advertised limit) out the door without taking out my wallet. Pretty sweet. There are more success stories like mine over on FartWallet (or something like that) 😉

Good luck!

hahahaha 😀
way to get the deal! thanks for reminding people that there's more than one way to shuck a pea (against animal cruelty)

If you can pull this off, it's a pretty hot deal. It's been a long time since I've seen free CD-R 50 packs, although BB usually has Imations for 4.99 AR

Ok, at my Sears in Capitola, CA they had the Khypermedia for $14.99 with $15 MIR.

So I got 2. The Khypermedia address is:
50 pk cd rebate, dept c
po box 8011
Walled Lake, MI 48391-8011

www.rebate63332.com shows up on the receipt, but I don't think that's the right web address.

Maybe I'll go back and try for the Pioneers. Didn't find them in the ad. Please, someone email me a scan or something so I can post it!

Went to Sears last night and of course they didn't have them.

Got a rain check for 4 of them.

Will wait to Sunday and go back again. I know that they will not have them by that time. However I
do intend to produce their "terms & conditions" sheet which I printed out and ask for a replacement for the
same price "free". Will see how it goes. I am sure that I will have some persuading to do. I can become
belligerent and often just wear them down into submission.

last deal from sears on cdrs did not pan out for my rebate. few deals i get into fail to yield the rebate so i would say find your cdrs somewhere else.

So much for Sears. Another good US company run down by managers from a certain minority.

The manager form the Sears in Santa Monica is a "David Goodman" !

What a shrinkhead and a joke to humanity!

Happy for those who got the CD's

Those who (like me) got pissed by Sear's attitude:

just call 1-800-762-3048 and tell them that you want the promised PIONEER CD-R's and that the manager or CSR
denied to give them to you (for whatever reason, be it out of stock or offering the off-brand hymermedia's).

Only if we all call them, will it affect the local managers and CSR's.

      DEMAND THOSE CD-R's!

call them right now!@#$% 1-800-762-3048

Is there something special about Pioneer media? I thought all CDRs were made in either Japan or Taiwan regardless of the brand. Seems to me, if people are getting free 50 packs then something is going right.

MisterKingdom:

I bow to your superior thinking. In honor of my fealty to you, my lordship, and in order to serve, I visited Sears.

Borrowed a circular from clothing, and went to harvest CDRs down in electronics at a different Sears store than on Sunday. I look for the Krapermedias/Pioneers, but of course none to be found. Did find some 16X HP Taiyos down there ... I digress. Go find the sales droid, and ask for help. He says, sold out. I ask, well, then what do you do in this case? he says, we give you a raincheck. I say, fine, let's do it. As he pulls the raincheck form out, I "discover" the wording on what they have to do, and ask if I can get them to replace the CDs. he says, OK. I say, now what do we do about the rebate, and he hands a 50pk of Memorex Music CDRs, and says, they're free. I don't say anything else except, "thank you." It's always nice to be polite.

Looks like I'll spend the weekend harvesting CDRs in the area.

Nefrodite:

Don't think it's the burner ... OM Lite-On 24X using Nero and VCDEasy/CDRrao. I did burn the little beasts at 24X, which was not even what their rating was. As it turns out, I reburned everything with 12X Pioneers, and they work fine. Since then, I've started doing the burning at no faster than 16X, in order to make sure I don't get pixellators.

Cheers
