Pretty cool, AMEX and Amazon are linked...

I was checking out for some gifts and was prompted to use $50 in points I didn't know I even could use outside a stupid CC site for items.

Most of my card's "reward" money makes the items just cost what a normal online store does...this was pure cash.

Anyway it'd be great if all shops did this at checkout.

it's a nice change after the chase/amazon visa made that ridiculous change where they don't automatically send out the gift certificates anymore.

Actress Maggie Q of the film "Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon" poses for a portrait at the Amex Insider's Center during the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival on April 25, 2008 in New York City.

Please confine these pics to the babe thread in L&R.

Nor really sure what that pic had to do with the topic. It's been removed

I liked the change actually. Whenever I got the 2500 pts, it was anyone's guess when I'd get the gift certificate. Now that I have to order it myself, it shows up 3-4 days later in the mail.

I just got something in the mail today saying if I register my card at AMEXNETWORK.COM/HOMEDEPOT10 I'll get $10 off for every $75 I spend at Home Depot (limit of 6 per cardmember) through 1/31/11. That plus my 10% off coupons might really add up to something.

Not really....for the gift cards they offer it's 100 to 1, didn't see any I cared for...for cash gift cards it's 200 for $1.

I ended up with about $45 for 6300 points closer to 140 to one...

Pretty sure Amazon is trying to get into the universal login game. Facebook is doing it for social media, Amazon is doing it for online retailing.

But I'm just guessing from the couple things I have seen.

Thanks care,

Anyone know what the conversion factor is if you used the points to pay a purchase off your statement? I couldn't find the ratio.

Thats a great strategy in combination with their universal wishlist which I'm sure they are harvesting to determine the most profitable partnerships first.

You're dividing the wrong way $45 ÷ 6300 = 0.007. Average conversion = 0.01, or 1% cash back.

No, I am dividing it the right way for how I outlined it.

$50 for 5000 points partner gift cards. 50 to 1
$50 for 10000 points cash cards. 100 to 1

$45 for 6300 points amazon. 140ish to 1

Do you get 1 point / dollar spent? That kind of sucks that you only get 0.5% cash back if that's the case. I have a chase sapphire and I always just pay off part of my statement with my points at 1% cash back. I looked into getting gift cards, but the conversion rate is still only 1%, so I'm not sure why anyone would do that instead of just getting the cash.
