I formatted the HD in my laptop about 2 weeks ago and went with a very vanilla install...only running a couple apps like SQL 2005, Visual Studio, and similar programs. I suspected that my newfound problem was related to IIS or SQL or VS debugger running in the background, but I finally have it isolated:
When I hit the mute, volume up or down buttons on the front panel, Windows hangs. CTRL+ALT+DEL pulls up the windows task manager, but no control...mouse moves, but no clicks, no keyboard entires work, nothing. I tried uninstall the touchpad drivers, but still doing it. I can do a fresh boot with nothing loading on start up, hit the volume button once or twice--Bam!
Any ideas? Also, is there a way to turn SQL and VS debugging off and to only load when needed? I removed just about everything in my msconfig, but it still is running. Turned off the service, but still in windows task manager.
