Hm...

lower case q = pinky
upper case Q = ring (with left pinky hitting shift)

I was actually taught the correct way to type, I guess this is a bad habit I picked up. Now that I think about it I think I do this because of video games. I don't play anymore but in the past I was required to push shift-Q with my left hand.

Ring finger. The pinkie finger would have to stretch to get it; pinkie's primary functions are:
A, Z, CAPS LOCK GODDAMMIT!, CTRL, WINDOWS KEY.

You're going to have to explain this.

Q is closer to A.

Middle finger. I've been using keyboards since before I learned to wipe myself yet I never learned how to type. :(

How can you use your pinky for that? What if, heavens forbid, you need to press Tab, Shift or CTRL?

Funny, I use the pinky for shift and control, but still use the middle finger for tab.

You can't "really" type without using your pinkie. At least not as fast as you could otherwise.

Ring. Its like a poor mans touch typing. Using most of your fingers ins the wrong spots but not really hunting and pecking.

I used to teach keyboarding, and if I saw you go for the "q" key with anything other than your left pinky, you got the taser ;)

If you keep your left index on the "f" key and pivot just a tad, it's an easy reach.

This. I wish I had a taser for my typing students last year. Hearing the keyboards tap away with the occasional "BZZZTT" would be music to my ears.

That can't be legal. Interplay can't use all this Mario shit without Nintendo's approval.

Nintendo made a pilgrimage to the Japanese gods in return for a century's bad fortune towards Interplay. They're even now.

You're going to have to explain this.

Q is closer to A.
Q is closer to A - closer than what?

I don't know, maybe it's my fingers, my hand's position on the keyboard, or the keyboard itself. At neutral position, my entire forearm needs to stretch and twist a bit to deliver my pinkie finger to the Q key, but reaching it with my ring finger requires only moving that one finger.

I also use the Ctrl key a LOT, to the point that my pinkie finger starts to ache after a day at work, so maybe my hand position is geared up for that.
My Ctrl keys get a lot more use than the Q key does. Hm....and apparently, when I'm typing a capital Q, my left pinkie is pressing the left, shift key while my ring finger is heading toward the Q. In that usage, both fingers need to move to the left, so moving to press the Shift key naturally helps pull my ring finger to where it needs to go.

:hmm: I wonder if I could get 4-key keyboards for my toes, too. I have reasonable control of my big and little toes, and those damn feet just sit there, being all useless when it comes to using a computer efficiently.

(Hey, I still don't have a direct neural interface with this damned machine, so I've got to make do with this interface technology, and this poorly-coordinated body.:p)
