If I type my password (try to that is) the computer freezes, the cursor is still blinking but nothing comes up for my pw and the mouse no longer can move. I have pws on my admin and everything and i can't get into safemode or anything because of this. I've used another keyboard, tried usb but couldn't use it cause it wouldn't work w/o drivers or something and any other boot mode does nothing as well. I'm baffled and I can't do anything w/o someone elses comp. I've reset cmos for kicks, tried every option in my bios because thats all i can access. Any other thoughts? - seth

I used to have a friend who would have that problem, but I think it was addressed in a windows patch... so I'm really not sure what to tell you

Can you get into the bios? If you can't then it's most likely a hardware issue. If you can then it's most likely a windows problem.

yea i can get into the bios, tried every option in the bios.i madethe "ultimate boot cd" but i can't remove a login pw so i can't get into windows still. i think it may be the keyboard drivers because i installed new ones maybe a week ago.. i can't change anything in the services, msconfig etc. except for what is being used to boot the boot cd, so i have no idea how to change the drivers of the keyboard in it.. any help would be amazing

So can you get into safemode?? Have you tried last known good config?? Try safemode with command prompt and then run system restore: %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe. You can always boot to the xp cd, go to recovery console and stop services through there with the listsvc and enable/disable commands. Have you tried another keyboard?? Other ports?? is there a hub in the way? Have you tried ps/2? Is this a wireless keyboard/mouse combo??

ok unable to do the system restore from command prompt (can't do it in safemode only thru a boot disk) got to the listsrv and enabled a few things on boot that i thought should do it, nothing, i have no idea what happened then. i enabled on boot thinking that would be the quickest. it was boot system or auto enable options and i did boot...any help anyone? - seth
