You should never have doubted my slant towards Liberal. I have stated in previous threads I am a social liberal,fiscal conservative. I have strong opinions about that 40% every quarter to the IRS and State coffers. I have very strong opinions about being taxed to death.I remember the days of &quot;READ MY LIPS&quot; too,as well as 1993. I remember well when inflation was through the roof ala Carter days and Ronnie.

I also give Clinton the nod for giving me the best economic times of my life in these last 8 years and I don't want it fvcked up by this clown the reblikans are trying to push down our throats.

Russ worry's about a potential recession? So the hell do I!! And I am sure he sees at as a result of this oil situation.
Bush was just on CNN Moneyline touting the pitiful way Clinton has handled OPEC,and he said HE would use his influence with HIS friends in OPEC to bring down the price of OIL. OMG he does have influence with oil. Here TOM read about it GW's early oil years

Russ has every right to be angry about paying 40% every quarter in taxes. I am too. But will it change under Bush? HELL NO! Russ won't get one dime in relief and neither will I. By god ,you are smart enough to know that. He can't pay for his tax plan and save social security,medicare,the military,prescription drugs,school vouchers and shoring up the EDUCATION RECESSION. Wherr is the money coming from,especially if we are on the door step of another recession?

My point is,I'm not comfortable at all about changing just for the sake of change. I like the economy humming along the way it has been. It's been a feel good economy. The tax burden is high ,but we are surviving. And if it continues as it has been over the last 8,we may see the elimination of the nat'l debt in 12.At least one hell of a dent in it.

I am studying Shrubs Economic plan,his environmental policy,his education plans(since they efect my grandchildren)his plans for seniors(I am one,I have a vested interest in that topic as I care for an 80 year old who just had quintuple bypass and valve replacement. I am well versed in medical costs!)

If the reps had run McCain,I would be voting for him. You're stuck with shrub, HE WILL NOT GET MY VOTE-PERIOD!!

Easy. If Gore gets elected, my plan is to buy lots of put options. I would sell short outright, but there probably won't be any shares left to borrow by then, should it be evident that Albert is going to win.

Or maybe hoard gasoline, for the day when he signs the Executive Order outlawing the internal combustion engine, the item about which in his book he mentions as the single greatest threat to mankind.

How on earth is he going to do all this and reduce the deficit as well? Who is the tax and spend now? He is damn sure spending that surplus,is'nt he?

If I remember right, one of the morning talk shows on the radio said that texas scored 48th in the nation in standardized tests.

Also, his &quot;educational reform&quot; is close to authoritarian if I'm not mistaken. The schools are given a set of things that they are required to learn, and have to learn these things that some politician finds important. A teacher cannot teach their syllybys, they have to teach the states. Reguardless of student understanding, importance, and relevence.

Well yea, i don't have the time to look it up.. pbs and nightline i think did peices on texas's education system. Since you support bush iwould assume you would want to know about things like that... or not.

great to have kids that can score well on a test, but unable to read a book and understand it. Teachers also complain about not being able to really teach, they are reduced to test trainers.

Someone else here can look up links or whatever, but its kind of pointless because everyone here is pretty much set on who they are going to vote for. I know a link or two on education is not gonna swing you my way and you know that too.

Gore has made so may misstatements, I think he DID inhale and still is. The press killed Dan Quale for the same thing, where are they now?

I think it will make a big difference in a lot of peoples lives who is elected. Lets hope it isnt a Democrat.

Now if I was like several people on this BBS who say thaey like a certain canidate but wont vote for them because they have no chance of winning and the person I voted for lost I would be very disappointed in myself.

Anyone who thinks that it doesn't matter who wins this election has not thought very hard about it. It may seem there is very little difference between them, but there is a very big difference between who their Supreme Court choices will be. That will be the long lasting legacy of whoever wins in 2000.

As far as the folk who lament the tax situation, let us not forget that the national debt tripled under Reagan and the fiasco of &quot;supply side&quot; economics.

What will I do if my choice doesn't make it? Sigh a lot and get on with life.... as always after every election.

I'll vote for Bush, mostly because I'm anti-socialist-Gore. If Bush isn't elected, there's not much I can do except whine about it. It's probably true that there won't be significant differences in our lives with one or the other, but at least there's a fighting chance for tax relief with Bush, with a guaranteed tax-hike with Gore.

Two national policy changes could really help things in my opinion:

1) Eliminate income tax completely, along with all hidden taxes. Adopt something similar in concept to the Fairtax.

2) Adopt preferential voting so that voters can choose who they want most first, along with an order of preference. This would help eliminate the 2-party dominance, and would give other people a much better chance (this has been implemented in Europe and works well).

Granted, I'm no political scientist or anything, so I could be way off here.. but it seems like it'd be a good thing to me.

Simple question: get high. If Gore wins, he will probably legalize marijuana (assuming he has a democratic congress). I've only smoked weed once in my life, but lately I've just had this urge....

Are you sure you're not smoking weed if you think Gore would actually legalize it? There's no way he would.. even if he wanted to. It's on par with legalizing prostitution. Sure, there's arguments for legalizing them, but it's just so &quot;taboo&quot; in the political world that it's very difficult to be succesful/accepted as a politician while supporting it (unless you're Jesse Ventura). It's too radical a thing for him to publically support it (and no, a Democratic congress doesn't help, it's not even a Democratic/Republican issue since any congressmen would stay away from it)

Perhaps what this country needs is for a left wing nut (read: Gore) to get into office. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before the descent stops, then you can begin the climb back up.

i've been in the texas public education system for 15 years now, starting on my 16th, and i would consider the experience to have been very good, i feel quite well educated, and a lot of people i talk to feel the same.

and about that standardized test. i took one form of it or another 5 times (it was once called TEAMS, then another name, finally TAAS). and i can tell you with certainty that it is a joke. it tests basic math, basic reading comprehension, and basic writing ability even in high school. we're not even talking algebra or those SAT word games. students who require the teacher &quot;teaching the test&quot; really aren't qualified to leave high school.

and about education here. for everyhing you read, remember that TEXAS IS A POOR STATE. even with all the oil money and new tech money (SBC, compaq, dell, etc.) texas remains a largely rural state with a low per-capita income. now, i would absolutely love it if the legislature decided that each public school should have just as much money per student as the current wealthiest one, which would be absolutely phenomenal for the education system, but the political and economic reality dictates that that will not happen. there is only so much money you can extract from people, and the education system has one of the weirdest methods of doing it (property taxes ugh), so theres only a certain amount of money to work with, and we're doing as much with it as we can. don't kick us just cuz we're poor.

Oh really, then of course you'll want to keep Congress in the control of the GOP too. That's the difference in the last 6 years. We've had Democrat presidents many times before, but only 6 years of the last 45 has the Congress been controlled by the GOP. Something to consider, eh?

Back to the subject of this topic. If Gore gets in and opts to KEEP OUR MONEY, I will be pissing and moaning the whole fvcking time, so be prepared! It wouldn't be so bad if he had the money earmarked to pay down the deficit, but he doesn't. He has more GD ways to spend MY money than I DO! :|
