Hardball follow-up on he McCain "no look" policy:

Checking a crowd outside the hall:

McCain didn't want to acknowledge his presence, thought Obama didn't belong on the stage with him.

McCain was embarrassed (though she didn't say why).

McCain didn't want to look at Obama so he didn't lose his temper.

As I said above, random Mississippi crowd comments.

Pundits from the left say that that's just Obama being a gentlman in his style of debating. He replies by agreeing then goes to point out the flaws or differences of the opponent.
If you actually read the transcript of the debate, after Obama opens by agreeing with McCain he goes on to point out the differences.

So Obama says he does, but he really doesn't.
The ad is misleading by using lines taken out of context.

Some figures for stat junkies:

RealClearPolitics.com national average for Obama bumped up 0.7 from yesterday to a +4.2 spread in favor of Obama.

FiveThirtyEight.com national average for Obama bumped up 0.6 from yesterday to a +3.9 spread in favor of Obama.

Obama has taken 2 full points from McCain in Virginia according to RCP, leading by 1.8 now. According to FTE, Obama has a 4.1 advantage in Virgina. Virginia is a real game changer being that it's 13 electoral votes, and were easy easy victories for Bush in 00 and 04.

RCP has Obama at 286 electoral votes with no toss-up states, and FiveThirtyEight.com has Obama at 310 electoral votes. Both RCP and FTE have McCain up between 1-2 points in Ohio and Florida.

Btw, 1981-1982 was one of the worst recessions in modern history, with significant negative GDP growth and aggregate high single digit inflation. This hasn't occurred before or since, for those mentally challenged folks that believe Reagan's presidency started in 1983 and Clinton's started in 1991.

Just to clear up the Kissinger point:
Henry Kissinger believes Barack Obama misstated his views on diplomacy with US adversaries and is not happy about being mischaracterized. He says: "Senator McCain is right. I would not recommend the next President of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the Presidential level. My views on this issue are entirely compatible with the views of my friend Senator John McCain. We do not agree on everything, but we do agree that any negotiations with Iran must be geared to reality."

As a broad generalization, voters tend to trust democrats more on the economy, and Republicans try to beat them by making people vote on a foreign policy threat instead.

There are exceptions - Americans did not trust Jimmy Carter on the economy, regardless of the facts (e.e.g, Ronald Reagan starting us on the road to huge deficits).

The facts of record unemployment, record inflation, and record oil prices?

Ths thread isn't a debate of Carter, but I'm referring to the issue of how many of Carter's economic problems came from Nixon, Carter's starting to get things on track with the appointment of the Fed Chairman who was widely credited with doing so, and the big problems caused by Reagan.

Just as I said - Kissinger is misrepresenting Obama's position as being about *presedential* talks with Iran, but both times it came up, Obama indicated otherwise.

McCain is the winner, of course (LINK)

Where he routed Obama was on economic and spending questions as he repeatedly accusing Obama of using earmarks and wanting to spend too much.

OUCH.

Hahahahaha at least be an intelligible hack. McCain did well on foreign policy (better than barry) but sidney got ripped to pieces on the economy.

Here comes loki, the perpetual Devil's advocate. Punching McCain in the gut and slapping him in the ass at the same time.

Yeah, the guy says he will vote for obama but ends up defending McCain at every chance and critizes obama

Thanks.

The spin will be that Obama kept mentioning how right McCain was on right on certain issues when really its because he knows how to show respect and acknowledge the truth. This, to me, is a valuable quality as opposed to a guy that refuses to even look his opponent in the eye.

What are you talking about Craig??

The direct quote includes Presidential talks.
Question:In the spirit of that type of bold leadership, would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea, in order to bridge the gap that divides our countries?

OBAMA: I would. And the reason is this, that the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them -- which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration -- is ridiculous.
The question is VERY clear. Would YOU as in President Obama.

he's a little too clean for me :brokenheart: ;)

seems like he'd be the buzz kill in the bar at midnight, sipping his wine while I'm going through vodka tonics like they were going out of style... which isn't a bad quality for a president.
