I watched it randomly, and I caught one part that I'm surprised Biden didn't respond to. (To be fair, I don't think he was given a chance by the moderator to respond to Trump's comments.) It was when Trump was putting down Obama and Biden by stating how many open judicial positions there were to fill at the end of the Obama presidency. Trump kept trying to push about how he was setting records, and how it meant the Obama administration was weak. At the most, you could argue that it meant the Obama administration couldn't work with the Republican Senate, but to be realistic, I don't think there was anything Obama could've done to get them to work with him.

Ahhhh, so fragile. Unable to understand the concept of taking criticism for self-improvement.

Then you lay your perceptions that I'm making these points as a means to prop up Trump as if he is better.

Your presumptions and self-arguments will continue to get the best of you it seems.
The only presumption that stands out like a sore thumb to my mind is that you have something important to teach. 'Did you know that Lincoln was a Republican? Most people don't know that." Unable to understand the concept of taking criticism for self improvement. You crack me up. Let me know when your self criticism lets you know how you really feel about yourself and then figure out you believed in lies. Then you can teach me.

Trump said in the debate the “Portland Sheriff supports him. Then Mike Reese - "As the Multnomah County Sheriff I have never supported Donald Trump and will never support him.”

Lol.. that tweet is up to 895k likes.

Trump doesn't even know that Portland doesn't have a sheriff. Nor do Trump supporters know that literally everything Trump says about Portland is a fucking baldfaced lie. And I should know, I live here.

Yeah, I kept waiting for Biden to counter with Moscow Mitch abusing the filibuster to prevent Obama from filling those vacancies.

When the GOP took the Senate in 2014 they shut down judicial confirmations almost entirely. *snuff* Fuck you, Libtards. Blame Obama.

Lol, oh no, Biden called him a name! That Biden, so not fit to be president! Lol, useful idiots can't help their own mental hubris
Forget the fact that Trump has been namecalling all of his political opponents for years, it's Biden who's the bad man! Because feelz!

These Trumpists hypocrites can't stop being hypocrites. Because they legitimately believe there should be 2 sets of rules and laws in this country, one set for them and one set for everyone else. Equal protection of the laws and Liberty and Justice For All is communism as far they're concerned. And that's what this election is really all about.

IIRC Trump said law enforcement, not military. Biden has plenty of support in the military. Not so much law enforcement.
True, but IIRC, Trump was also ranting just before that about how the military supported him as well, so it would have been a counter to at least that part of the attack. In any case I think such a reply would have been better than simply standing there and saying nothing. I partly blame Biden's prep team too. They should have anticipated this attack and had some sort of response. I remember sitting there just thinking: "Come on Joe, say *something*".

I also recall the other point I was trying to think of that Biden missed, the fact that Covid cases have in fact been traced to Trumps rallies, including the death of Herman Cain.

Of course, it is easy to sit back after the fact and come up with a better response, so I dont mean it as too strong a criticism of Biden. OTOH, I cant help but wonder how much better some of the other potential candidates would have done, i.e. Mayor Pete, Kamala, Bernie, or even Corey Booker. But as the saying goes, it is what it is, and overall I would say Biden did OK, but certainly missed some opportunities to score decisive points against Trump.

Biden did pass up a few opportunities but he did no harm to himself which if you are leading is absolutely job #1.

In this case, Trump worded the attack smartly, by saying, "name one law enforcement organization that has endorsed you." Assuming there are none, Biden couldn't answer without obviously changing the subject.

Perhaps he should have brought up the generals earlier in response to Trump bragging about military support, but there was nothing he could say in response to Trump's attack regarding law enforcement.

Am I the only one that thinks Joe did great considering he had to argue with a 5 year old?
Debates are about discussing ideas and proving your point, not a shouting match with a preschooler.
He kept his cool for a long time, and focused on providing answers

Next debate please let's bring Stormy Daniels, get her a front row seat.
Any time the orange slime ball says a lie, Joe has to answer it "you always exaggerate about the size of your things. Isn't that true ms Daniels?
Oh, and the mic mute controlled by the moderator has to be a must.

The analogy that arguing with a trumpster is like playing chess with a pigeon applies to their leader also "they'll throw the pieces, shit on the board, then make noises about how they won because you didn't get check mate..."

Last night and this morning Fat Man (Chris Christie) said he didn't hear it that way and effectively advised the President to clarify those remarks. Advised as in not calling the President or meeting the President after the debate. Advised as in he said it in a News Channel that hopefully the President will watch.

**Fat Man helped the President prep for the debate.

Well I'm not politician like Christie, and I'm not anywhere close to a political expert. But the moderator and Biden really had to push Trump, and even then what he said wasn't anything I'd call condemning towards white supremacists. I mean shit, it shouldn't be hard to speak out against racist asshats. But Trump couldn't even say something even if it was a lie. Imagine a guy who's lied like 10,000 times in 3.5 years couldn't lie for once? I was in shock how hard Biden and the moderator were trying to get him to speak out.

And the result of what he said? A group of rednecks took it as it's time to grab their shotguns and prepare for battle.

This could happen, per a CNN Breaking news scroll (no link because it will change)

In the aftermath of the off-the-rails debate, the Commission on Presidential Debates said in a Wednesday statement that it is mulling structural changes moving forward.
“Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues,” the CPD said. “The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly.”
The CPD added that it is grateful for Chris Wallace moderating the debate, despite his failure to keep control.
“The Commission is grateful to Chris Wallace for the professionalism and skill he brought to last night’s debate and intends to ensure that additional tools to maintain order are in place for the remaining debates.”

I agree, Trump cleverly maneuvered him into a defensive position, but I think even a response like "Police are free to endorse whomever they please, but I wish to make it clear that I am a strong supporter of fair and just policing and have made clear that I do not support defunding the police" would have been far preferable to just standing there speechless. I am not a professional debater or politician, but this topic was sure to come up, and Biden should have been prepped for it.

Nope. Not the only one. I think Biden did very very well vs. the deplorable bully. I is almost like you can hear it Trumps voice .. the desperation over Biden not taking the bait.

Yes, I suppose that would have been a better response. But Biden essentially said those things you suggest within +/- one minute of when Trump pressed him about the endorsements.

Biden was inconsistent in this debate, no doubt. He really only won it according to the polls I've seen so far because Trump defeated himself.

Where did I say he was senile, take your time.
My bad .. I was sure as hell, cant search forums right now, timeouts, I take that back, sry bout that.

edit : nope, actually found this, I have you confused with someone else...

Trump doesn't get to ask the questions. Biden was not obliged to reply.

Hi "couldnt lie" in this case because it would alienate his base. He is a habitual liar, but those lies are designed to carefully appeal the his base. It worked in 2016, and he appears incapable of doing anything for 2020 except doubling down on that strategy. Hopefully, it will not work again, but I am still apprehensive until the final results are in and Biden has won.
