I've read similar op/eds This one was the easiest to find quickly.

Here is the same OP/ED posted in the Washington Post

Does that help it's credibility?😉

BTW - I originally read it in the Post - I generally try to read the post every day(online) but google gave me the other link first😉

I just don't see what the GOP has done for the African American population to warrant the concept they may steal the black vote from the dems. Sure it could happen, but the GOP and Bush in particular has come down against some issues blacks probably identify pretty strongly with. To name a few: Affirmative action, labor issues (like overtime), civil rights, healthcare. Plus the down economy over the last 3-years impacts African Americans particularly hard.

Whereas Bush has done something concrete for hispanics (i.e. amnesty program), I'm not sure what he could point to specifically that he's done for the African American community.

I'm hoping that Dubya's Hispanic Strategy bites him right in the @ss. It's more of the divide and conquer method- Native and naturalized Hispanics, voters, see themselves more as Americans than as Hispanics. Many rightfully see his immigration initiative as an attempt to undercut their economic position with cheap imported labor and a lame attempt to play on their perceived ethnic identity. They see it as a cheat, too, these imported workers having no legal status to become citizens..

They pound on buses and you call that violent? I call it noisemaking...

Tell that to the people at Lamers!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the first time since he's been our president that Bush went to Atlanta on MLK's birthday. I'm sure it's just coincidence that he chose to show his respect in an election year. 🙂

Actually, I believe he went to Maryland (on the 20th) to talk about King.

You don't believe that he is foolish enough to think he would get any extra votes for doing that do you?

Bush, who could not see the protesters, laid the wreath, bowed his head and said a silent prayer.

"Please God, let the photograph be in focus."

Bush gets booed

i don't know how you can make a "MINI-RIOT" out of getting booed....

there is absolutely nothing the the link provided that indicates anything remotely resembling a "riot", mini or maxi, occurred.
the definition of a "riot" is "A violent disturbance of the public peace by three or more persons assembled for a common purpose."

I think a more accurate title for the article, and your post, should have been: "Discourteous Liberals Shame the Memory of MLK as President Bush Honors Him"

"Discourteous Liberals Shame the Memory of MLK as President Bush Honors Him"
Yeah what's the point of creating a disturbance? Do they feel the MLK is their icon and that someone who doesn't have the same political views as them can't honor him?

ri·ot ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rt)
n.
A wild or turbulent disturbance created by a large number of people.
Law. A violent disturbance of the public peace by three or more persons assembled for a common purpose.
An unrestrained outbreak, as of laughter or passions.
A profusion: The garden was a riot of colors in August.

Unrestrained merrymaking; revelry.
Debauchery.
Slang. An irresistibly funny person or thing: Isn't she a riot?

Since as it has been pointed out, this is an election year.

Does anyone else wonder if the disturbance was just an outpouring of feeling from people who had gone to honor MLK or if it was staged.

It was as staged as Bushes visit. Of course Bushes visit was a disturbence so there was nothing wrong with it!

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. Bush would've been criticized whether or not he visited King's mausoleum.

Here's a joke just for you Dari

The Pope is visiting DC and President Bush takes him out for an
afternoon on the Potomac... sailing on the presidential yacht, the Sequoia.
They're admiring the sights when, all of a sudden, the Pope's hat(zucchetto) blows off his head and out into the water.

Secret service guys start to launch a boat, but Bush waves them off, saying "Wait, wait. I'll take care of this. Don't worry."

Bush then steps off the yacht onto the surface of the water and walks out to the little hat, bends over and picks it up, then walks back
across the water to the yacht and climbs
aboard. He hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence.

The next morning the topic of conversation among Democrats on the
Hill, the New York Times, Hollywood celebrities, and in France and
Germany is............................

Actually, he was. It's almost like a tradition with the pinkos. They hijack Bush's trip and ruin the memory of a great man by howling like animals at the sight of the President paying homage.

You won't be offended if I ask if you have any links to support your claim, will you?

"I think a more accurate title for the article, and your post, should have been: "Discourteous Liberals Shame the Memory of MLK as President Bush Honors Him" "

Nah- "Bush fattens campaign contribution bottom line by exploiting memory of slain opposition leader."

Personally, I'd give that wreath the smell test, see if georgie pissed on it before putting it on the grave...

Actually I don't. I remember watching the news on TV (ABC World News) in 2003, 2002, and 2001, not online. Back then, the crowd wasn't as big as they are this year. The internet isn't a central figure in my life. Sorry.

first of all, i don't believe that laying a wreath at MLK grave just as MLK day is approaching, will result in either one more, or one less contribution to GWB. Let me also add, that had GWB NOT paided his respects to MLK, in my opinion, liberals would attack him for that as well.

secondly, to suggest that the President of the United States urinated on a wreath laid on the grave a MLK is quite frankly race baiting and offensive. i suppose i can forgive youthful ignorance in this statement. I am assuming your course that you are a juvenile, from your comments.
