The U.S. will receive no aid, assistance , or support from the UN while Bush is in office.
He has again shown that he cares not for the world community, and is only working
to further the goals of his self serving Administration and their financial benifactors.

Less that 5 % of the world population, and less than 2 % of the U.S. population
can't have it their way, this isn't Burger King.

Compounding the pressure, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan is considering ordering the total withdrawal of U.N. personnel from Iraq, a step recommended by his top political and security advisers after two bombing attacks against the world body in Baghdad over the past month, according to U.N. and U.S. officials. A U.N. pullout would seriously undercut efforts to assign the United Nations a broader role in overseeing Iraq's political transition.

Caving to terrorism? You sure you want these guys making the rules?

Caving into terrorism, or not dying for Bushs war? I think it's the latter.

Do I want them making ALL the rules? No, but I want their serious and significant participation. The chances for that were pretty well shot in the foot with the Bush alledged attempt at requesting assistance at the UN

From what I can tell, everybody is saying "Not unless you relinquish some control over Iraq." Is this another case of 'I'm right and the rest of the world is wrong'? Who here thinks that the refusal by Bush to loosen his grip a little in order to gain his much needed funds and troops is strictly based on the idea that it's what's best for Iraq?

Why is the UN thinking of retracting from Iraq ?

Could it be that the US is not offering the security
that might be expected by an occupying force that
is not really putting enough emphisis on the UN personel ?

After the first bombing the US was real quick to state that the UN
had it's own security force, which the UN said they had a minimal
security force, and the US Military had not responded to a request for more.

The bombings - both remote detonated and suicide variety, attacks on
and assissinations of the 'Designated Pro-American Politicos',
are Political Statements in themselves. Don't help Americans - or else.
The inability for US forces to protect the indiginous population, along with
the non-ability to provide equipment and supplies are undermining our efforts.

There is a report that they can't even get the stuff they need - our 'Contractors' can't deliver.
Just too damn long to Clip/Post - Regisred and read it

The way I see it, the pig ignorance that got us into this mess isn't going to have the brains to get us out. His advisors will have to wrap a crow in stars and stripes and an eagle suit and have Bush eat to the beat of a Sousa march.

Thank God the UN is sticking to it's collective guns by refraining from being drawn in by the Bush Regime's lies and greedy fingers.

Go UN!

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Who is going to run the land mine clearing programs, the food and medical distribution programs which is primarily still run by WFP? Their are a myriad of services being run in Iraq by the UN that has prevented the pre-war predictions of a humanitarian crisis. If the UN leaves, other NGOs will doubtlessly leave as well leaving the Iraqi people in a very very bad state.

Why would you want that?

I hope Annan means UN programs such as UNICEF and WFP will continue b/c they are quite effective but typically outside of the political realm. The terrorists that have come to Iraq may be careless but more than few Iraqis probably consider themselves patriots and decent human beings. Accordingly they would not intentionally target food warehouses or vaccination clinics.

But given the poor security in Baghdad it doesn't make sense for the UN to put a large, centralized operation in the capital. Despite the clear differences in opinion between the US and UN, the UN will remain a target . . . a big, fat, soft one.

Unfortunately for Bush, the UN could readily sense that there was a pompous jackass at the podium giving the whole world the bird.

God if Bush had only had the decency just to get a blow job in the White House instead of screwing up the world.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when the Election gets into high gear. Will Bush bash the UN? Will he claim the UN has failed the US?

Did you mean to spell "galled" like the Roman province that is now France. Or was that a truly amazing accidental pun?

Ironic you should say that, tnitsuj. Since the pro-war people have been saying for I dunno how long, that the UN is "irrelivant" or "UN is not needed" or "we can go it alone" or "UN is a useless debait club"while ignoring all these little details you just mentioned.

But then again, some of the anti-war people don't seem much better with their constant Bush bashing or bisare wish for total US failure in IRAQ (which will only cause more suffering for the iraqi people).

I really wish both sides would try and meet in the middle somewere and try to work this sh!t out, without causing more problems.
