Something I've wondered about before - why do conservatives love the word 'narrative' so much? I;ve noticed that right-wing hosts on the radio here _love_ the word. One of them once used it three times in one sentence. Search reveals Retro Rob here has used the word seven times, just today. What does it mean that they like that word so much? As I understand it it actually began on the liberal-left, coming out of the pretentious pomo university courses many of them took. But then the right picked it up and have used it obsessively ever since.

"narrative fiction"

It allows them the "intellectual" position of assuming everything they see and are told to believe is equal parts fiction, and those pieces of information that best make sense to them are the actual truth. The world is simply made up of "equally true narratives;" whatever you want to believe or claim, is just another narrative. It's not rocket science.

This allows them to simply assume that whoever doesn't see the world as they do, has simply subscribed to some "other narrative" that exists. This is how conspiracy theories thrive--anything can be a narrative, as long as you tack together wholly disparate, individual factual events that have no actual baring or meaning when tacked together to construct what very much is a false narrative. ...but that doesn't matter, because it sounds good enough.

Also, false is no longer a word that is used in the conservative brain. It has been replaced with "alternative." This is what allows the apathy and confidence of delusion that R Rob displays so gleefully, because one can never be incorrect if everything you see and however you see it is now simple "another equally valid way of seeing a thing."

This isn't new to human civilization. It is how the worst of history's despots have captured the mindshare of the weakest among us, and only towards their very worst ends. History records all of this for us, and is part of the reason that conservatives have been hell-bent on decades attacking intellect, education, science, the arts and letters, directly re-writing history (Texas school board and national Text book standards--inarguable here)--because it is essential for the GOP to confuse the past and the very well known results of their current machinations towards gaining hegemony over a much greater majority of the population. What they want is exactly what Saddam had in Iraq: The tiny Sunni minority maintaining complete control over the vast Shiite majority. It is no mystery that this is what they have been aiming for, and the results will be the same if they achieve it.

Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien is next on the list:

That job has to be the most cursed in all human history.

I predict at least 2 more names added by tomorrow morning.
It’s like being the drummer in “This is Spinal Tap” or the manager in “Fear of a Black Hat”

This is absolutely astonishing. You guys cannot answer a single question that throws your narrative into serious doubt.

A lot of groupthink in here.
Only because I’m thinking for myself and lobbing countervailing viewpoints at you.
I’ve noticed you haven’t answered my questions. Guess you’re having your own issues with countervailing view points.

I honestly didn’t see your question.

March and April? This was really the beginning of the Pandemic here. Of course things will be slow. All 50 states are asking for FED help at the same time.

Trump is not superman.

He is the boss of all bosses in the US Government. He is supposed to lead and organize big projects like protecting the nation. This is literally in his job description.
The Federal Governments response was weak and had little leadership in the beginning. This is a failure at the top.
The US has nearly 1/4 the Covid deaths & infections of the fucking world. I’ll take pushback that maybe China or Iran or NK may be fudging their numbers but even if it is 1/8th the Covid deaths that is a crazy huge number vs population. Fact is statistically if you are an American you have a high risk of getting infected with Covid and high risk of death from Covid.
We still have troubles getting fast Covid test results which nowhere else in the world appears to have unless you want to count non developed countries. There is no excuse for this situation. We have had months to plan out testing and develop a fast turn around. We have failed the task.

Each state Governs itself and each state is different. He couldn’t call for a national lockdown no more than he could a National mask mandate.

Besides, why treat Casper Wyoming the same as Manhattan? Makes no sense.

Have you looked at per capita numbers?

That tells the true story.

Jared coralled a bunch of trust fund elite 20 year olds to circumvent the normal channels and address the supply problem. As you have reported here, that went about as well as expected. 🙄

That and a bunch of rich, bored donors who wanted to play Govt for a little while, and got in way over their heads when s got real.

Boobs and heckofva job Brownies up and down the chain.... :/

That's your narrative, deflectors on maximum

It's a real embarrassment as well. Elected officials are supposed to set the fucking example. These imbeciles have been doing the opposite and now they're all getting themselves infected. The optics are ridiculous, they look incompetent and insane rolled into one. How is not an embarrassment for these to be elected officials? People voted for these fucking idiots that are going out and contracting this virus on some sort of bravado vision quest. Actually laughing out loud, it's just ridiculous 😀

You honestly believe Americans take their cues from our politicians?

“Yes that Chuck Schumer guy really buys nice clothes. I’ll by nice clothes too. I’m following his example”.

Lol - I used to be anti-Trump. Did not vote for him in 2016. Did not vote for Hilary either.

The fact is I’ve simply learned to accept facts and reject the fictitious and overwhelming false anti Trump media coverage.

I’m not ashamed of separating truth from narrative. You shouldn’t be either.

Of course you have and of course you didn’t vote bunker boy in 2016.

Are you trying to play the stupid "not susceptible to advertising" card? People sure as shit take cues for public safety related issues from political leaders.

You honestly believe Americans take their cues from our politicians?

Say this out loud. Then say Trump. Then say Republicans. Say it out loud again.

I can't speak to all Americans, but it's abundantly clear a large majority of Republicans do exactly that. They've fallen right in line behind the pied piper Trump. Surrendered their supposed values, replacing them with fanaticism for Trump.

Taking their cues from politicians is exactly what a lot of the GOP base clearly does. Not just the base either, the elected officials as well. They've all signed up for the MAGA cult, apart from the few who genuinely had values and broke away as they saw their party turn into a cult.

Well they’re running the risks of looking extremely radical and will cost themselves votes.

We will see. And if they DO attend and attack a successful woman, they’ll surely lose their feminists voting bloc.

I’m sure you are correct. Bunch of Fem Nazis will suddenly drop support of D candidates and move to R candidates because those emotional bitches can’t be happy with anything.
Dumb broads

**Did I get it right?**

There were reports of Americans misusing bleach not long after Trump's whole disinfectant mess. You'd better believe people take their cues from politicians, especially when people like Trump have explicitly told people not to believe what they see.

The fact that we adverted a disaster is not success. It’s like saying that the Titanic’s captain did a great job because they only grazed the iceberg and did not hit it dead on.

Why not answer the question. Who did not get what they needed? Cuomo was praising the federal government for giving him what he needed.
