Good advice and illegal activity avoided - found a well reviewed GP with weekend hours and had a full check up today. Unlike the other doctors who gave me the 3rd degree like I'm a junky, she quickly just made some phone calls while I waited and verified my diagnosis and dosage and gave me a new prescription. Will be canceling my $300/hr non-covered psychiatrist appointment, phew!

Jumping to breaking the law was kinda harsh in retrospect, but when you've been to a few doctors and they kick you out thinking you're looking for a fix, well, you get desperate.

Fully understood, it is very frustrating. They have some fooked up law about certain drugs in my state because of all of the meth users. What it comes down too is that i have to sign, yes sign, for OTC allergy meds because they make meth out of them. Now that they've done that guess what? Meth production has gone down so now heroin use is on the rise. Go figure.

OK, hold on right there. By prescribing ADHD meds he's legally prescribing outside his scope of practice and that's a place he doesn't want to go. Finding a GP or family practice is greatly to your advantage.

My brain surgeon is actually a proctologist. Works out well :hmm:

Well, I'm going to be seeing her every month. If she doesn't work out I'll suggest what she did to my next doctor ("just call my pharmacy to verify my dosage and frequency"). It's weird that other doctors even found me suspicious, I"m a straight laced indian nerd with 2 kids and a spare tire that shouldn't imply stimulants abuse.

Good, I'm glad you found someone who can help you. I understand you were only trying to have a need met and I would not want someone to find themselves in trouble for trying something which seems perfectly reasonable. Our laws and regulations regarding controlled substances are not meant to aid those in need but designed to keep things strictly unavailable except under very specific circumstances. If a customs agent were to discover a controlled substance coming into the country the DEA might just decide to investigate and they aren't concerned with motivation, they enforce the law and that's bad news for those who become a target, no matter the motivation. I'm glad you won't find yourself in potential jeopardy. No one needs that, especially when seeking medication for a legitimate need.

You're absolutely right, and I appreciate the good advice. I think I know an unusual amount of uninsured people, and they seem to order xanax and anti-depressants from canada like it's no big deal. I've been down the psychiatrist racket before, my old psychiatrists used to charge me $200 bucks an hour to talk about my parents, my relationship with my siblings, and our mutual love of old movies. our average sessions were over an hour, rounded up to $400. Every month! Now that I'm a family man I just find that so hard to justify, and all my health insurance options (all 3 of them) booked for months, since my horrible insurance has 3 participated doctors in NEW YORK CITY! 3 in a city this huge is unforgivable, but that's the health insurance they give my wife, a nyc teacher. bah.

Sorry for ranting, but I so rarely need the meds (driving, paperwork, analytics work) that illegally buying 10 pills for $100 was less hassle than doing things the "right" way. Everyone from nurses to pharmacists take a skeptical to downright accusatory tone that's incredibly embarrassing. The last docs office I went to had an administrator escort me out! It's been very frustrating to deal with, but I'm just very glad the GP route worked. I respect her quite a bit but even she's skeptical, saying I should try coping mechanisms and all this mombo jumbo over medicating. I know she means well, but MRI's simply show that our ADHD brains need some help firing up properly...It's gotten so awful that I"m falling asleep randomly, bordering on narcolepsy. It's not our fault that junkies love our medication. I happen to hate the stuff and use as little as possible.
