Preschool teacher insulted.

On WFAN last week, Chris Russo was talking about his 2.5 yr old going to preschool and he referred to the preschool teacher as a "glorified babysitter".

funny, annoying, jerky comment? mb.

however, a preschool teacher wrote in demanding an apology. very funny stuff. she wrote that she had a Masters degree and additional credits and that she was a preschool teacher and . . .

anyway, it was really funny that she was soo pissed by a passing comment.

Russo wasn't really making a big deal about it, it was just a passing comment.

it must be really tough being a radio show talk host.

i agree. we spent a lot of time and research finding a good preschool. we actually sent our son to a couple of them that we would never use again. the one that he finally ended up at and (the same one my two younger kids are going to) is AMAZING.

GREAT preschool.

She is only insulted because of the truth in the statement. I'd be pissed too if I had a Masters degree in babysitting but it was her choice so she needs to get over herself.

They take a bunch of kids, put them in a room, read them a story, and then let them run a round a playground for a while before naptime. It's not like they're teaching them algebra or something.

its not HOW DIFFICULT THE SUBJECT they are teaching that is the issue. IT's HOW.

do you have ANY IDEA how difficult it is teaching young children? OBVIOUSLY not.

I totatlly disagree with the statement that Russo made on the Radio, HOWEVER, i don't think it is worth getting annoyed enough to write to the radio station about.

Well, in my experiences with preschools, they don't really teach anything. They play a few games, read a few stories, and generally have a more organized daycare. Hell, it's called pre-school. If they were supposed to be doing a lot of teaching, they'd be in school.

Well, my pre-school taught reading, writing, and 'rithmetic.

edit: For the smarter kids. Allows them to skip a grade when they start elementary.

No, Learning happens whether someone is in "SCHOOL" or not.

most intelligent people realize this.

"School" vs preschool is a political designation. just because something is not labeled school does not mean that learning does or does not happen.

Who said anything about learning? You're right, learning happens everywhere, not just in school. It even happens when a kid is around a babysitter, beleive it or not. We were talking about what it is that preschool teachers do, in contrast to what babysitters do. We were NOT talking about when kids learn.

hmmm. they teach, mb not as you understand it in your small mind, but preschool teachers do teach.

the mistake is to think that easy things are easy to teach.

teaching basic social skills, alphabet, sharing, bathroom skills.

as adults we think, OH how easy, but anything is easy once it's familiar, it's getting them familiar that is the difficult part and a well educated preschool teacher will in general do a much better job of it than a "babysitter".

Oh sorry, you're right, it was just my small mind. It's probably also my small mind coming up with the ridiculous idea that insulting people's intelligence is a crappy way to try to get them to see your point of view. But like you said, small mind, so I'm probably wrong.

If it were so easy to teach the basic skills and knowledge, we wouldn't have so many dumb asses, stupid folks, and plain ignorant people running around. I don't need to be specific, but you know what I mean. There's a reason there's bad parenting: because they cannot control their kids, of any age, nor can they teach them anything.

Yea, maybe she should go into the IT field. She could move to India to work for Microsoft.

I guess we could also say that elementary school teachers are babysitters too since they need to keep an eye on the kids.

pre-school preps you for school. teaches you how to share, work with peers, and get along with one another. my preschool wasn't always playtime. it involved learning new words and stuff. recess sucked. they had a fireman's pole and it was made out of wood. :( i would slide down and get splinters. happened once. never went down it again.

You people are funny......that is the parents touting how important pre-school is in a child's development....LOL!!!!!! Get a grip. Pre-school is nothing more that daycare with a politically correct name to make it sound like it is an important part of a child's learning so that parents can feel less guilty about dropping their kids off at a babysitter so they can go on with their lives and not be bothered with actually raising their own damn children. If you expect everyone to buy into your justifications and rationalizations you are going to be disappointed. Oh, yeah......I'm a parent BTW.

WTF? You actually think your statement is true for every pre-school? Oh please... And, yes, some parents do have to work... you know, so that their kids have a home to go to and food to eat at night?
