I got this compaq presario s 5140wm, the pc started to just reboot at first, then the display on the monitor used to go black, and the cp would stay idle, at this moment i tried to started up again and it did went into wondows I try to reboot and it stayed on idle with a black screen, is doing the same with both the internal and my agp card, any ideas, smell to me like heat on the cpu might be to overwelming for the pc, but im not tech so come on guys any susgestions welome.

If there is a lot of dust in the heatsink or the power supply, blow it out and see if that helps. Does the blank screen occur immediately, or does it take some time before it happens? It could also be a failing power supply.
 
as far as dust in the power supply that is all good to go, also this is a farly new pc, not even a year old, I already contact compaq and i'm droping this off for waranty work, but it would be nice to know in case I can get it going myself, as off right now the computer turns on all fans on go but no activity on the screen, this morning it went into windows ok, then i came back and it was a black screen again, since then it just turns on. Hopefully is just a heat realated issue and i get the pc back pretty soon.
